PostSubject: Re: potpourri potpourri - Page 6 EmptyTue Nov 29, 2022 3:24 pm

My conscious objective is to forgive myself(in general) for transgressing my values? I may need a confessional. But this is an internal struggle that I have been losing since childhood. Specific moments of my actions I haven’t gotten over and they are rather silly at this point to be hanging on to. Life moved on, so why isn’t my conscience?

Because you feel like you've let yourself down....or those who you depend upon, or your ancestors, or family.

Those moments, if they truly affected you, were part of your growth, movement towards your objective.
Error is part of life...we adjust and move forward, then adjust again....and again....
To movement forward you need to consider your errors as necessary.
If we are unaware or deny our participation in our mistakes we never advance - like the cunt iamastupidmoron on ILP.
How can she move come out of her trap when she is keeping herself in it, and using it as a ploy to gain sympathy or pull others in with her?

Choice is how we participate in the determination of our fate, even if we aren't aware of it.
Our power - social willful etc - determines the degree of our participation in our fate.
So, the modern coward wants to remain powerless - even if it is faked.
Victim psychology.

My objective is to forgive myself. What is the triangulation again? What action or thought gets me there?

Triangulation:
Subject, you.....objective self-forgiveness...effort/movement towards it.

In this case the objective is in yourself.
Your failure caused you to lose trust in yourself, or to reduce your self-respect, your self-evaluation.
Loss of self-confidence.

Don't know what this failure was.

Usually regaining self-trust, confidence, is to achieve an objective.
Usually, forgiveness begins by identifying the error - the one responsible and evaluating the degree of its participation, acknowledging it and making the necessary corrections.

One regret: Not helping a stranded couple who were motorists, the female was frantically waving me down, the male was sitting with his feet out the passenger door holding his chest. It was 3am along a 26 mile bridge when I was by myself in unfamiliar territory. I told myself that the risk was too great due to those circumstances, keep driving. That happened 28 years ago. The moment will forever be illuminated in my headlights.

The primary objective is to preserve yourself, by minimizing the probability for a negative consequence.
Your sympathy is causing you guilt?
Did anything bad happen to them?
You made a judgment call, within particular circumstances.
You don't even know that if you had stopped you could have helped, or been on time.
You don't know if this was some kind of trap, using sympathy as the weakness to be exploited.

Forgive yourself by admitting that you are a selfish individual, like every other in this world.
You placed your welfare above that of two strangers.
I would have done the same.

What do you identify as?
Human?
Is this generalization your only sense of identity?
You see yourself in their position, and, in your mind, you stop and help yourself.
Are you afraid that if you are in need that a stranger may not stop to come to your aid?

Yes, guilt. I identify as a heroine, but failed to be so, clearly. I grew up the doer, the idea person who got everyone involved in projects they enjoyed. I think as my mental illness progressed, I withdrew from most of my participation with others and only now am coming back out into the world like gangbusters Wink Knowing that nothing terrible happened, would alleviate the depth of that failure. Being selfish is a characteristic I despise both in myself and others. No I never saw myself in their position.

Gotta go dance to this song.

Most people, especially women, come to philosophy thinking they will find some solution to a personal issue, mostly a mental/psychological illness, when philosophy only offers more profound problems, making personal issues less relevant.

Reminds me of that old Native solution to a toothache.
Take a rock and bash your head with it. Toothache becomes less painful.

Funny. I came after Plato blew my mind when he described the soul as I would describe it from my experiences. Then, when I arrived at ILP, the varying perspectives and debate styles awed me.

Last Friday’s date was with a writer who is a Mason. He’s a proud socialist via his own proclamation with completely opposing political views. As I was heading away from him I thought, stick a fork in it, it’s done and over. Then he shouted, “What about a second date?” Shocked the shit out of me. Nooooooo!

My time is better spent with the thoughtful, body builder.

I’ve always kind of wished that was my problem. Two of my profile pics were taken on the fly with heinous hair, no make-up, rough… in my mind, but men seem to really like what I consider fugly.

I’m 5’8” and I think that the average height of males is 5’8” or shorter. So far 3 of the 5 guys dated have been shorter than I. One was 6’3”. One was 5’9”.

That masquerade ball I attended last year was a room full of hundreds of short people. I had heels on that made me 5’11” and 90% were dwarfs. lol! What is happening to the world? When I was in my 20s, I don’t remember such dramatic height differences. The last two generations of tall men(6’+) who’ve mated with short women(under 5’6”)have produced tons of short, young adults.

The older you get the more you must choose from what is leftover.

The intensity of need/desire determines the degree of the necessary compromise.

The hippies of the 60s/70s majorly diverged from tradition, so to me, those large swathes of baby boomers let tradition disintegrate. Are you gen X or the tail end of the boomers?

I'm gen X.
I think boomers span from 1946 to 1964.
Boomers sent it all to hell....because they didn't want to go through what their parents went through.
They made the 60's possible.
Frankfurt School infected their minds.

Want to start a thread with two premises and you not accusing me of challenging you. The premises are love is the creative energy and fear is the destructive energy. What is the grey area between creation and destruction?

Unexpectedly inherited a VIP ticket to the 2022 masquerade ball from my Sister’s co-worker yesterday, so once again I shall be in attendance. Unfortunately, I am completely unprepared this year, scrambling in a mad rush, maskless. A homemade, red and black, lacy, pirate styled, eye patch is definitely going to be as good as it gets. Hahahaha! Off to make my “mask.”

Met a new man. 57 yrs. 6’ tall. Nice smile, face. Stage 4 leukemia survivor. He figured out how to save his life using a Rife light. Entrepreneur. We’ve had two telephone conversations, each lasting over 2 hrs. We’ve covered a lot of ground already. He has a calming effect on me. A date has been scheduled.
