Memory is the issue here.
It is what philosophy, science, life, is all about.
It is what differentiates what we call life from what we call the non-living, the animate from the inanimate.
It is what we refer to when we speak of genes and memes.

After patterns, interacting, it is the next level of existence.

We call kinds/types of dynamic interactivity exhibiting a pattern, order.
Order: consistent, repeating, predictable, consistent.
We call kinds/types of dynamic interactivity exhibiting no pattern, chaos, random.
b]Chaos:[/b] inconsistent, non-repeating, unpredictable, inconsistent.

Both order and chaos refer to dynamic energies: activity.
Existence defined as that which is interactive: acting in relation to other.

(Inter)Activity: repulsion/attraction, or how one dynamic energy relates to another - its harmony/disharmony describing a relationship.

Energy: vibration, osculation which may or may not be ordered.
Energy as the echo of an ongoing event we call Big Bang: point of near absolute completion - wholeness, oneness.
Existence is the outcome of this absence of completeness - absent absolute, where absolute is a human construct: abstraction, noumenon.

Every interaction affects all participating energies, resulting in a gradual increase of chaos: expansion of space/time - possibilities, where order is a manifestation of increased possibility, or probability.
Two forms of order, in relation to a human observer: matter/energy.

To define memory in relation to interactivity we must explain how interactivity can result in an accumulated effect that informs, affects, every subsequent interactivity.
I differentiate life from the nonliving, as that which accumulates, rather than loses with every interaction, resulting in the antagonism of order(ing) and increasing entropy (complexity), as a process towards increasing chaos (randomness).

Memory refers to this accumulated residual effect of every interaction, affecting, informing, every subsequent one, resulting in the emergence of life.

Genes are accumulated memories, reduced, interpreted, converted (simplified/generalized) to code (genome) which then informs, guides, the offspring, the copy, to act in specific ways.
Memes are the conversion of this process into noumena, abstracted code, that can then be manufactured, inverted, shared, communicated via semiotic intercourse.

Iteration is how particular congruities of patterns re-assimilate what is lost with every interaction - feeding, consuming.
Every pattern, and subsequently ever combination of patterns, in relative balance, we call a unity - a congruity is a circumstantial interaction, whereas a unity is one that has attained a degree of balance, due to how each pattern relates in relation to other pattern.
Unity: a circumstantial congruity of two, or more, patterns, who's particular dynamics (repulsion/attraction) is characterized by the negation of repulsion to a degree where attraction dominates.
The beginning of memory is when such a unity replenishes its lost energies by attracting back into its congruity patterns already participating in its unity - what is most like it...or what increases its unity's internal attraction/repulsion balance.
We can affirm that too much of a 'good' thing could be detrimental if it results in a gradual imbalance.
A unity must maintain a constant level of repulsion/attraction, otherwise it disintegrated, implodes, or explodes - it maintains a balance of tension.
No one pattern, participating in a unity, can exceed another because this will create a shift in the attraction/repulsion balance.
Accumulation occurs incrementally.
The gradual accumulation of energies, in tension, expanding the unity's range of effect is growth - its attraction/repulsion force - affecting every subsequent interaction.

On this level we cannot speak of self, nor of life, as a particular life.
We can only speak of life when the process achieves the level of motive - movement towards, implying will, as the focus of the unity's attraction/repulsion.
Attraction/Repulsion occurring coincidentally, has no intent. A pattern relating to another pattern has no intent. It relates in the only possible way it can - it is pattern, and the way it relates to another pattern is the only possible way it can relate.
Intent emerges when a complexity of patterns in balance, arrange specific patterns within its community of relationships, in a way that directs the unity as a whole.

In its simplest form memory focuses the unity's aggregate energies towards what attracts, and what attracts is what is being continuously lost with every (inter)action.
This attraction (hunger/desire) eventually evolves as the sensation of need.
Every interaction resulting in a loss, which is interpreted as need/suffering - agon.

Genes are the accumulated experience of every interaction, stored and then affecting every subsequent interaction, which adds to the process.
Genes establish potentials of actions - behavior.
Different accumulations result in divergence of types - species.
Intermediate stages are called breeds, races.
If the process proceeds uninterpreted for a sufficient period of time, dependent on the quantity and quality of interactions, a complete divergence occurs where disharmony exceeds harmony - repulsion is greater than attraction.
At this point heterosexual reproduction is impossible.

Heterosexual reproduction: recombination of genetic memories.
"Reshuffling" of the past.

Memes are the conversion of genetic memories into a form that can be externalized - converted into abstraction, represented by acoustic and/or visual symbols.

Cognitive leap is attained when the organism can apply memory not to the intimidate interactions but can foresee, predict, using precedent.
Deeper memory base, requires a stronger memory.
It's benefit is to inform the organism of a pattern, in the collected and arranged patterns, that can help it prepare, and focus its limited energies, multiplying their effect - synergy.
This cognitive ability is called imagination - the bedrock of creativity - art, innovation.

What pro-creativity is to genes, creativity is to memes.
At this stage the organism can expand its conception of self to include iterations that preceded its individual birth, and instead of being reactive it can be proactive.
It can place its individual survival on a secondary tier of need, placing an ideal, on the first.

An ideal is a particular combination of data-memories which may or may not refer top precedent - may be more or less reality based - realizable, realistic.
The brains ability to rearrange memories and recombine them makes it prone to fantasy, or delusions.
the degree to which memories refer to actual events (interactions) and not to imaginary ones (artificial , false memories) determines the utility of the memory - its application, and the consequences, measured as costs/benefits.

Self: word referring to conscious and/or unconscious memories.
Sum of all experiences participating in the development an emergence of the particular organism.
Nature, as the sum of all past nurturing, can also refer to the 'nature of the organism' - essence.
Spirit/Soul is popularly used to refer to Self.

Ego: referring to an appreciation of self, or to the degree to which self is known - memories re-membered, re-called - called into consciousness.

There is no self without memory.
Memory is a continuum (becoming) connecting interactions.

PostSubject: Re: Memory Fri Apr 21, 2017 7:45 am

Memory begins to fade, the instant it is created, short after the events it depicts.
It is, most often, positive, because the brain is prone to select what is least detrimental to its well-being, constituting remembrance, a tool for the strong in constitution, and time/space is a distance that detaches the observer from the observed. the one recalling, does so as if the events happened to someone else.

In the conversion of stimuli to a form the body/mind can process, much data is lost.
Abstraction is the simplification/generalization of (inter)actions - cutting away dimensions (space) of possibility.
This is more pronounced when possibility has settled into cost/benefit consequences.
Then it is a matter of evaluating them, in relation to a desirable idea(l), or objective.

The brain, in its role of need gratification organ, may blame others for the costs, retaining the benefits with pride, or it may only accept the costs, placing the benefits upon other.
This depends on the individual's self-esteem, and the conscious or unconscious motive.
If the self is to be retained unblemished before the idea(l), or if it is the idea(l) that must remain unblemished, at the determent of the self.
The difference is due to what is truly idealized on a deep, visceral level.
Is it the self, holding others, and ideas accountable, or it it the idea(l) outside of it, holding others and self accountable before it?
The gradual diminishing of memory can be rejuvenated with constant re-calling, but with each instance, the particular circumstances of the individual add to what is recalled an additional component which is then part of the next recollection.

This is how one can make a good or bad first-impression, and cultivate it with subsequent positive or negative stimulations.
Your presence will automatically trigger positive, or negative, recollections, in the other, because in their mind the memory of you is attached to specific emotions, sensations, images.
Your presence, as a visual stimulation, or a vocal one, will trigger the neuron clusters of your past encounters (memories), creating a domino effect - a cascading release of stored memories, and the associations with emotions (mind), and feelings (body).

Memory can be divided into right and left brain methods.
For the left, details are clear and vibrant, at the loss of everything else. Specific elements during an event, stand-out, at the expense of all else.
For the right, what is lost in clarity, is gained by breadth. Memory is hazy, but can include more elements in the form of vague sensations. The sensations are not in error, they only are representation of the sensation the mind experienced during the events recalled.

In the first case objectivity is retained, at a cost.
The individual can recall events and relive them clearly, as a objective observer. Any subsequent reactions to the same event add to its subsequent recollection, until the actual circumstances are lost in time - they fall away.
In the second subjectivity establishes the moment in space/time as a fixed synthesis of the individual's reactions. The reactions could more or less objective, but are vague, allowing emotions to seep through. The individual recalls and is unmoved by subsequent events, or recollections, but does so obscurely, reliving the event exactly as it experienced it, every time.
Details are absorbed in sensations, and/or emotions.

The body is the most honest repository of memories.
Unlike the brain, it cannot lie to itself, nor hide from past, nor push it down and away.
All the mind can do is cover the body, paint it, manipulate its honesty.

It's not a matter of being 'true to yourself', because you cannot be anything but, physically.
It's a matter of to what degree your mind can agree with what the body admits.
Ignoring, denying, works, for the mind, but the body suffers the consequences.

Mind needs ideas, like body needs nourishment.
There's visceral wisdom stored away in the body, which the mind must awaken to and comes to terms with - make sense of it.

What is conscience if not physical memories using mental abstractions to express themselves?
What is intuition, instinct, if not a re-collection, through the ages?

Harmony/Disharmony of patterns interacting, has been rightfully defined as tension, a synthesis of contradictions, held in relative balance/imbalance.
On a cognitive level this is felt as attraction/repulsion - both participating in every single encounter, creating a relationship.

Memory is continuance, connection, relationship...it is what binds organism as organization - it is life.
Without memory there is no experience, no genius, no learning, no adaptation, no consciousness, no overcoming, advancement, growth.

Memory is precedent. Interactivity reduced to code and stored, informing every subsequent interaction.
Memory is judgment, and pattern storage and recognition.

What is re-collected, re-membered, re-cognized, un-covered, revealed?
Past.
What is Self but a reference to past interactions, stored as memory, participating in organism as active or latent, or inactive genome.
What is self-knowledge but a remembering?
Bringing into consciousness, into the light, lucidity, of what has been buried in time, lost in multiple interactions.

What is creativity, pro-creativity, if not a re-assembly of past memories into new, unique combinations, and with each re-combination a slight divergence, a mistake, a detrimental or beneficial diversion?

Existence is interaction...dynamic...energy, Flux.
These are the most accurate words to use when trying to describe what one is a part of.
Some have used God, spirit, soul.
Others have used Power, as a evaluation of energy - a measurement, implying a movement towards, a motive, an intent...a telos.

I've described this (inter)action as that between energies with a pattern, (ordered), or non-patterned (random, chaotic).
Echo's of an event, modern cosmologists call "Big Bang", sometimes wrongly understanding this event as over, and not ongoing, or as a beginning, if not only of this uni-verse, then of all existence, and then wrongly assuming an end.
Theoretical Singularity and Nullification - 1/0
Binary logic, that most evade, correctly using it as approximation, and representational.

Interacting patterned and non-patterned energies can be given any name...but this is a method of purposeful confusing the subject in order to introduce into it synthesis that is only in the mind, and has no reference to anything beyond it.

The differentiation between organisms, or living congruities, and non-living unities, or simple coincidental congruities, is that of memory.
When non-living patterns or non-patterned energies, more easily referred to as simply energies, indicating a dynamic, ongoing, ceaseless, interactivity that may exhibit a consistent and repeating predictability, called order, or not, called random or chaos, is encompassed by the term Flux.

Memory is the re-calling of what preceded an interaction.
Whereas with non-living patterns, lets' say, an interaction has a consequence, the energies have no recollection of what preceded the event, as it is not stored, to be referred to, or to be useful as a tool of comparison, or guidance.
A pattern is, and it cannot be anything other than what it is. It does not reflect, nor does it require recollection to remain what it is.
A pattern is what repeats, but does not re-collect. With every interaction it reacts to another pattern, or energy, in the only way it can...with no motive, or purpose, or re-collection of every interaction.

Life is a congruity of patterns that has evolved the process of iteration as a -re-collection, a re-integration of what was, into what follows every interaction....in other words continuously.
This re-collection of what was before, and juxtaposed to after, is the beginning of consciousness.
It is, also, what establish a continuum....an unbroken chain of events where the past is never forgotten but continuously informs all subsequent interactions.
Only when this continuum is establishes as unbroken can we use the term 'Self' to refer to this continuum of interactions, each leaving a small piece of memory we then call a complex organism.

Only in relation to this continuum, woven in a strong of memories, stored and endlessly re-collected, can we speak of a Self, an Ego, with a Will.
If memory is absent then the usage of the term 'self' is meant to introduce an element hat cannot be justified, but only implied and willfully inserted, guided by a personal motive.

-----

There are many manifestation of congruity.
Most are the observer capturing, or experiencing, the event of interaction, and then reducing it to an abstraction, a unity, mistaking it as intentional.
An interactions is attraction/repulsion of patterns, and of non-patterns...and the speed of the interaction is dependent on the rhythms of the interacting patterns.
Slow, in relation to human metabolic rates, interactions, between slow patterns we call matter, and interpret this slowness as solidity, will be perceived as a unity with an intent - an interaction with a motive.
Because the organism begins to understand otherness by understanding self, this may result in the mistake of assuming that because an organisms' intent is self-preservation, based on self-evaluation, self-knowledge and appreciation, that all congruities are similar intentional unities when it is the observer that has mad them so, by first abstracting their fluctuating interactions into a "whole" a unity, and then projecting into it its own intent, as self-preserving...and as willful.

There can be a congruity that has attained a certain level of balance, in relation to other energies.
The patterns finding a tenuous relationship that reacts, in congruence. This is the only time the word 'unity' is appropriate, because unlike the first example, here the congruity is not only in the brain, but it, where an coincidental interaction is experience and interpreted as balanced because it resists the will by the force of interactive patterns, but the congruity is persistent in space/time as a stable relationship, relative to all other patterned, and non-patterned energies.
I've described, elsewhere, how I think this balance is achieved, such as the one we call an atom, and why it persists indefinitely, in relation to human lifespans, so I will not repeat it here.

So we have two types of interactions a human can experience, given his sensual acuity, and technologies... in all instanced only ordered can be experienced directly...so we are always dealing with patterns of various speeds - rhythms, frequencies...

1- The coincidental ones, such as a stone, a wave, a cloud, a mountain, a planet where patterns, interact in the only way they can with other patterns, achieving a ephemeral congruity of relationships.
Relationships is another way of saying interactions of attraction/repulsion.
These have no intent...no motive....no objective, but may be given one by an observing entity with its own motive, intent, objective.
Self-Knowledge and understanding interpreting all in accordance with this self-knowledge and understanding and appreciation, relative to its own goals.

2- Unities.
Similar to the previous but only differing in that their relationship of patterns, has created a congruity that withstands all interactions with energies outside its congruity.
Unity is a congruity of interactions where repulsion has been sufficiently counteracted by attraction creating a balanced relationship - whole.

3- Iterating.
Unities that re-absorb energies lost to interaction with energies outside their relationship.
The beginning of what develops into life.
Every interaction result sin loss of energy - attrition.
The unity is pulled, or pulls, what is most like it - the field of effect created by the unity reduces the friction a movement towards other, when other is of the same frequency - path-of-lest-resistance. Reabsorbing energies lost due to constant interaction creates longevity...and we call such longevity in space/time, an element, an eidos.
Dividing it into matter/energy, to differentiate speed and rhythms of interactivity.
We also call them particles, indicating small packets of balanced congruities participation in more complex congruities, producing balance with their participation in repulsion/attraction - harmony/disharmony.

4- Life.
A development of the previous where iteration becomes memory, storing a small portion of energies lost with every interaction.
Memory accumulates, affecting every subsequent interaction.
Where there is no memory there is no Self.
Where there is no intent, no motive, there is no Will.
Using these terms metaphorically to insert and imply what cannot be justified exposes the motive of the actor, not of what he is describing.

5- Ego
As the unit becomes complex, integrating more patterns, that can now act as microcosms, within a larger unity, a part of the congruity can store self-awareness as a template to juxtapose all subsequent outcomes...just as DNA stored interactions, affecting all subsequent interactions.
DNA is the unconscious collection of interactions, and consciousness sis the collection of all interactions the organism is aware of, in other words all interactions above a certain level of affect, then self-consciousness is also the collection of self, as the sequence of interactions, over space/time the organism experiences, or has become aware of through second sources - knowledge.
Ego is this recollection of Self, either through experiences and reactions to other, or through knowledge - third-party experiences.
