The Achillean Economy.

"Klauser sets us in the right place, positioning the divinity of Achillean anger as part of a wide, historical immanence of rightful, citizened, defense against political injustice. In this telling Achilles is the power which will not submit to opportunism and legal or customary usurpation. It is the feeling in the breast that grows almost without object, but merely as an objection.

Sloterdijk’s reading of the Greek heroic epos, the imaginary space of gods, half-gods, and divinely chosen angry heroes, underlines that in ancient Hellenistic mythology the origins of anger are neither located in the earthly world, nor attributed to individuals’ personalities. Anger is rather understood as a possessed, divine capacity, a god-favoured eruption of power. Hence the birth of the hero as a prophet, whose task is to make the message of his god-given anger an immediate reality (pages 23 , 24). For Homer, to sing the praises of Achilles’ heroism also and ultimately means to celebrate the existence of divine forces, which are releasing society from its vegetative daze, through the mediation of the godly chosen `bringer of anger and revenge’.

It is from the Greek mythological relationship with anger that Sloterdijk derives his own conceptualisation of anger through the figure of Thymos. Originally denominating both the Greek hero’s specific organ for the reception of god-given anger and the bodily location of his proud self, Thymoslater with  Plato, and following the generaltransformationof the Greek psyche from heroic  belligerent to more civic virtues, stands for the righteous anger of the Greek citizen as a means of defence from insults and unreasonable attacks (page 42).With the figure of Thymos set against the psycho-analytical focus on Eros, anger, for Sloterdijk, is not only a vent for frustrated desires, but also, and rather, a reactive manifestation of offended pride. (Klauser)

As we can see from this paragraph’s end, the economics of Thymos, of soul and anger, vary withthose of Eros diagnosed and thus developed by psychoanalysis. In the notion and confirmation of pride, no longer is this a question of objects, or payments, but of relations. Achilles puts this very pricelessness forth, in defiance of what is hidden, in his ninth book refusal to be bought off by Agamemnon and Odysseus.

Neither counsel will I devise with him nor any work, [375] for utterly hath  he deceived me and sinned against me. Never again shall he beguile me with words; the past is enough for him. Nay, let him go to his ruin in comfort, seeing that Zeus the counsellor hathutterlyrobbedhim of his wits. Hateful in my eyes are his gifts, I count them at a hair’s1 worth. Not though he gave me ten times, aye twenty times all that now he hath, [380] and if yet other should be added thereto I care not whence, not though it were all the wealth that goeth in to Orchomenus, or to Thebes of Egypt, where treasures in greatest store are laid up in men’s houses,-Thebes which is a city of an hundred gates where from sally forth through each two hundred warriors with horses and cars; [385] -nay, not though he gave gifts in number as sand and dust; not even so shall Agamemnon any more persuade my soul, until he hath paid the full price of all the despite that stings my heart. (A. T. Murray translation)

One also recalls the Achillean novella Michael Kohlhaas by Heinrich von Kleist, wherein the hero refuses all possibility of payment or retribution, aside from the restoration of his one horse once illegitimately taken, setting the entire land to war. Righteous indignation allows no translated payment, no abstraction of a wrong. No amount of instrumental increase can restore the injury to the heart.

Miguel de Beistegui continues on with the theme, developing the historical critique that Sloterdijk brings to libidnal organizations. Once anger is internalized, and begins to be “banked”, or better, “stored up” (in just the kind of hydraulic metaphors psychoanalysis enjoys), it enters into a different economy: an economy of objects, an economy of hatred, instead of thymos or menis. Interestingly, Sloterdijk characterizes this real banking of anger not so much of the Christianized soul (which begins this internalization), but of the Revolutionary Left (which of course has its distinct history of brutal and collective abuses).

So, beginning with the fact and facticity of anger, Zorn und Zeit describes its economy or, more precisely still, its two possible economies, that is, the way it is and has been managed collectively in European history. The first type of economy is connected with a certain Greek, and specifically Homeric stance, the contemporary equivalent of which Peter Sloterdijk seeks to identify in a renewed concept of pride partakes of a healthy “thymotics”. It originates from the thymos, or the part of the soul that, according to the early Greeks, and up until Plato, was thought to be the site of the noblest affects. The second type of economy, on the other hand, is associated with the main processes of collection or gathering of anger, namely, Judeo-Christian metaphysics, and revolutionary politics. It originates from the erotic part of the soul, which defines the envious, libidinal partof the human psyche. If one can speak of anger in both instances, one also needs to emphasise the fact that they do not originate in the same part of the soul. As soon as anger is conserved, preserved, or interiorised, as soon as it is allowed, or worse still, encouraged, to accumulate, as soon as its externalisation is deferred, it enters into a different kind of economy in fact, it enters what has come to be associated with economy as such, and by that we mean the economy of accumulation, growth, and interest. Like monetary economy, the economy of anger crosses its critical threshold when anger rises and moves from a state of local accumulation and punctual expenditure [revenge to] that of a systematic investment and cyclical growth most notably, revolution, especially in its global ambition.

Paradoxically, then, and almost perversely, Sloterdijk argues that the revolutionary movements of the last two centuries, and the communist revolutions in particular, partake of an essentially capitalistic economy of anger that contradicts and undermines the very politicaleconomy it seeks to promote. In other words, and from the point of view of its dominant affect, communism would be driven by the very economy that it seeks to overturn. It would itself be an expression of the drive to accumulate, invest, and live off its capital. It would itself operate like a gigantic bank, in which the world reserve of anger would be deposited, and would grow, with a view to its final and total mobilisation in the name of a global revolution.

Under Sloterdijk’s review, Communist projects partake in the very anger-banking processes that drive the Capitalist machine that it seeks to overthrow. The resentment attributed to the priest of Christianity by Nietzsche is accumulated into a great reservoir of assembled power, a power directly attributed to libidinal organizations of psychoanalysis and beyond. And this organization is distinctly that of object-orientation, the internalization and projection upon, control over objects in the world:

The catastrophic effect of psychoanalysis, according to Sloterdijk, lies in its analysis of the conditio humana as a whole on the basis of the dynamic of the libido, and thus on the basis of erotism. This approach would not have been problematic, had it not been developed at the expense of the pole of thymotic energies (page 27). Yet such a one-sided view was no coincidence: the thymotic had long ceased to be valued and analysed as the site of possible values and virtues, with a few notable exceptions, such as Nietzsche and, more recently, Bataille. Psychoanalysis was and remains (for instance, in its Lacanian version) an economy of compensation and sublimation, born of an original and irreducible experience of lack:  “Whereas erotism indicates ways towards the `objects’ that we lack and in the possession or proximity of which we feel fulfilled, thymotics opens up ways for the human being to value what it has, what it can be, what it is, and what it wants to be” (page 30). In other words, the shift from erotism to thymotics, which Zorn und Zeit hopes to facilitate, is a shift from an economy of possession and lack to an economy of being, power, and plenitude. Throughout history, anger has been eroticised, that is, reduced to libidinal impulses defined by their lack and their weakness. Whenever the human condition is defined by a constitutive lack, also known as sin, the “ethics of indignity” prevail.

Here is where I find my greatest affinity with Sloterdijk’s ideas, for it was specifically the contrast between the ever-devising, instrumentalist Odysseus who has come in some modern philosophy quarters to essentialize the existential crisis of modern human beings, bothblessed and cursed by their technological powers, that the Greeks of Athens and even long before positioned Achillean immanence of rightful anger and immanent, eruptive power. It is precisely in terms of what is “hidden” (a favorite of such objectologists as Heidegger) and the character of device users that Achilles forms his objection to Odysseus’s very machinationed mind at the start of his book nine speech:

Zeus-born, Laertean, poly-machinationed, Odysseus, it must be now that the telling – spoken outright – it is declared, even as I have the sense, accomplished it shall be, so not with me you’ll murmur seated near another to another. For an enemy to me is that man – equal to Hades’ gates – who a different thing he hides in his chest, yet another thing he would have said. Nay, I will say what appears to me to be best.

For the Achillean, one does not hide what is other in one’s breast but speaks forthrightly, expressionally. The nothingness of hidden thoughts is hated just as the gates of Hades are hated. They are of the same stuff so to speak. I do not believe that the exception is to any dissemblance, but to dissemblance and hiddenness as proper modes of conduct, ideals to be achieved. There is in Odysseus the exemplar of the negotiator, not only of persons, but of circumstances. His is a world of objects which must be positioned. For Achilles, the world is a world of forces, and his is a immanence within them, one in which the alliance with others is a bodily constituted bond. The thymos of Achilles is the very substance that is shared between persons. His taken Briseis is his “thumares” (female form of his thymos 9.336). He thymos is poured into by the grieving of those he loves (9.612). Words matter. Riches are not worth a soul (9.401). The weapons at his disposal are merely withdrawal and action, and the power of those he is allied with. The very object-orientation of his counterpart Odysseus is misplaced. Words and weapons are the very stuff of a life."

PostSubject: Re: Han / The Sigma Han / The Sigma EmptyTue Jan 08, 2013 8:29 am

I read lots of Sloterdijk and wrote some on him in "Man as a system" & "Revenge of the nerds"(Agora). I dumped his last book in the trash can. He's dangerous, a progressivist and statist. Smile Will read through your posting.

Han / The Sigma Empty
PostSubject: Re: Han / The Sigma Han / The Sigma EmptyTue Jan 08, 2013 10:01 pm

There was an earlier discussion on Han here in the post titled Ex Oriente Lux. I am making the case that Han is the very Opposite of any Ressentiment; Sloterdijk works to my context. Han can be ressentiment as felt in that post, that's the weak-side,, Han is its exact opposite in the exalted sense.

Since you speak the language, I'll say Han is Pluto-nic. There's no other english equivalent for it. I've searched a lot.
Its Mars gone cold and subliminal. Everything to do with the underground, cold seething subterranean, inertia, slow fire. I've come across only two characters that depict Han in its authentic expression. Lead character of A bittersweet life, and the underground character in Rough Cut, which is sort of like the Korean version of Fight Club, except the 'system' here, is Life itself, and that's what makes this movie fantastic - it depicts Han at its impersonal best.
Han is an emotion, a sensation, and an attitude, a way of being, an intensely affirmative disposition.

Han is 'Self first'.

Unbowed Spirit. "Why should I."  - without the question mark.
It never explains. Never feels the need to explain, justify...
Slow to react. Inert.
The obstinate pride of a self-defined pace; tight feet that resists swerving to another's pace, resists being overwhelmed.
Self-set limits.

Hypersensitivity.

Magnified intensities.

Deep ties, deep loyalties.
Yet clings to nothing. It is always Self first.

Ruthless. In the way it loves and in the way it kills - literally, in the sense of never having regrets, unable to feel any regret. Rue-less.
Because it affirms everything in its way.
Shows no mercy - to itself foremost, as much as others; expects no mercy.
Unconditional love. Unconditional violence. Wholesome.
Everything goes. Everything is acceptable - the good and the bad.
An excess. Pluto - plouton is wealth.
Nothing gets it down, nothing keeps it down.
Stamina. Unfatigued.
Nothing is too much or too little, nothing is too dirty, nothing too sacred.
No calculations.
Resists measure.
No end. No beginning.
Its one of those terms where Eros as both Love and Violence flow silently together, sometimes in parallel when unprovoked, and flow entwined when provoked.
A Wargasm...

Excerpts from 'Ancient Anger' by Braund & Most.

Nietzsche was a philologist.
The allusion to the "figs" makes me appreciate the full expression of Nietzsche's favourite saying of being a "North wind to ripe figs"!
What a satyr!

Refusal to cry, desert, abandon, complain, bend down, beg before another.
The obsessive compulsion to see things to the end, to take it to the end, to break the labyrinth through to the other side.

"You know the day destroys the night,
Night divides the day;
Tried to run, tried to hide.
The gate is straight, deep and wide.
Break on through to the other side." [Jim Morrison]

Han is Loving mercilessly, Killing mercilessly.
Efficient. Clean. Clear.
Loving with everything one's got, Killing with everything one's got to spare.
0 or 100.

Simmering, cold fury, that does Not calculate cold-bloodedly.
Unhesitant.

Silent Incandesence.

Well-masked face.
Depths are not betrayed.

Brooding.
Bittersweet.
Anger like it were almost atavistic, collecting there for many many births.
An insult reverberates like life itself were insulted, like the chain of one's whole Being were insulted.

Receiving Kindness can become an affront.
The lust in their giving becomes unbearable.
Lies appear as insults.

Passionate truth-seeking.
Passionate integrity.
Passionate overflowing that makes it melancholic.

Remote pride.
Letting no one, not even a loved one touch it.
Anything, anyone can suddenly trigger one and irrupt as competition. It is the hearing of Life speaking through the other.
Everything appears like mere containers, mere mouth-pieces through which they hear Life taunting.
The double eros snaps awake.

Ego bound Within loyalties.
Undeserting. Self first but it doesn't understand desertion either.
Grit.
Protracted Endurance.
Self-absorbed.
Immune, inert, unperturbed to high levels of distress.

"True heroism consists, in not fighting under the banner of sacrifice, devotion, disinterestedness, but in not fighting at all - "This is what I am; that is what I want: - you can go to hell!" - Nietzsche

No explanation.

Han is unique, virile, you don't plead, you don't beg, an intense implosion of the ego, you don't utter one word of complaint, you don't justify, you don't excuse yourself, you don't seek justification, you determine your own right and wrong... your vendetta is not fueled by conventions of honour, etc. but sheer ego - vengeance does not become a question of an "against another", but of one's own soul, one's own being, one's own fate. The Opposite of any ressentiment against any "other".

It is ice-cold, but not ruled by cold calculations either, it is not sinister, its hurtingly melancholic, its zen-ish, you don't become a monster, you simply stand and confront like a Man....  its very close to the old greek tragic hero type, but, Han craves, demands for vengeance, it doesn't Seek it. It Finds it. There is no seeking. 'Almost' cannibalistic. Devouring everything in its way. It spares nothing, not even itself. Dionysian.

"Scholars have called it an all-encompassing sense of bitterness, a mixture of angst, endurance and a yearning for revenge that tests a person's soul, a condition marked by deep sorrow and a sense of incompleteness that can have fatal consequences. To die because of han, experts say, is to die of hwabyeong, or anger."

"There is no literal English translation. It's a state of mind. Of soul, really. A sadness. A sadness so deep no tears will come. And yet still there's hope."

Bleak, real, intense, natural, direct, bold, clear as day.
It leaves nothing unturned to make sure there is no way it can be mistaken for something else.
Strikingly Clean.
"I am what I am."
Unapologetic.
It is an inert stillness of mind.
A self-assuredness, that finds nothing too humiliating.

An unrelenting obstinacy that refuses to let another wrest from it what it does not want to relinquish. Someone trying to make it loose its control of itself triggers it into rage, even though the one triggering could be most dear to it...

The movie A bittersweet life has a very simple plot. A gangster tells one of his most loyal and trusted members who is almost like his son, to look after his mistress while he's gone away for a few days; he suspects her of cheating behind his back and wants him to report back. The member finds the mistress he's silently fallen in love with, cheating his boss for another... upon which he decides on his own to let them flee. The boss he loves loyally and more than his life, is hurt by his disloyalty [his han] and wants to take him down, to which the member is ready and accepts his fate loyally. But then the Boss wants him to admit, wrest out a confession first, that he set them free because he fell in love with her - that as his servant, he committed a "Mistake". This triggers Han in the member, who regrets and wants to regret nothing. He doesn't want to apologize and leave his former self - his former action in the lurch. He doesn't Want to explain his actions, he doesn't feel the need to. He doesn't want to beg and be spared his life or be forgiven. They both know it is going to be a tragic end, there can be No resolution because one wants no resolution - like the figure of Achilles. It is Roman-tiqueness. You let No One tamper with your pride; you guard your pride at whatever cost, in the face of everything else. It is the being of being unable to be any other way, not wanting to be any other way. A foolish and peculiar pride, that resists communication, explanation... And what happens from there is the rest, all rage and trust and loyalty coming together in a dramatic conflict... unbelievable treatment of the subject in a typical commercial foreground, etc.

No Romanticism - no valourization, glamourization of love or violence. Pure surge.
The psyche swelling...
Delicate temperament.

"The stories of Roman sensitivity to insult are legion. Like characters out of Dostoevsky, the Romans were subject to violent attacks of self-esteem.
Julius Caesar opened a civil war to “repel insult from himself” (contumeliam propulsare [Cicero, Pro Ligario). [C.Barton, Roman Honour]

Han is ike the anger/love of Achilles. What happens to Patrocles is an affront to Him Self. His merciless violence dragging Hector shamefully, punishingly, is Han - his anger IS love. Han is Wargasm. Hector is not Hector, but Achilles confronting life through Hector - its why he stops just short of cannibalism.

Han is rage, deep love, it is anguish, the torn heart remaining true, loving life not wanting to change a thing, hating life wanting to be everything.  Bittersweet.

"This is kind of like han; a strong sense of righteousness that will not simply forget the past, and which will not simply give up and say "they are bastards anyway..." It seeks the object of love to come back, to consummate that desire to join together in a relationship of giving and receiving friendship, trust, loyalty."

Han is enduring. Then enduring a little more. And then a little more. Relinquishing is pain, like to let break off were ignobility.
It is the Merciless refusal to relinquish whom one is raging against Mercilessly.
Self first, but one wants to honour one's self in the other too!
One honours by showing no mercy to the other, for, being merciless is the highest honour and love it shows to itself.

Han is exalted love.

Someone described it on the web like this:

"What is han anyway?
When you long so for your desired, when you give everything you have, when you have worked and worn out your strength, when your energy reserves are depleted, when you have offered and sought and reached out again and again, when you have given everything you can, but still... the earth does not listen to you, the universe does not respond, the beloved still refuses to listen, to hear, when he or she walks away, indifferent... this leads to han.
...when the nature of your love and all the hope and joy and wonder that it promises instead becomes a sorrow and anguish that will not go away, and when it breaks you down, and blocks your heart, when even then, you simply cannot turn away, but live on, one day, two days, one year, two years, with a hope buried deep inside you, but a reality pounding against you, challenging that hope, decrying its potency, that's han.
That, if anything, it is Not hate.  It is respect.  And that’s why han is so hard to describe.  It is an intense loathing for something to the point that if it didn’t exist, your very identity would be totally different."

Han is a passionate burning monologue with Life in a cold infinity of one's being.

"At the risk of displeasing innocent ears, I submit that egoism belongs to the essence of a noble soul, I mean the unalterable belief that to a being such as "we," other beings must naturally be in subjection, and have to sacrifice themselves. The noble soul accepts the fact of his egoism without question, and also without consciousness of harshness, constraint, or arbitrariness therein, but rather as something that may have its basis in the primary law of things:
--if he sought a designation for it he would say: "It is justice itself."
He acknowledges under certain circumstances, which made him hesitate at first, that there are other equally privileged ones; as soon as he has settled this question of rank, he moves among those equals and equally privileged ones with the same assurance, as regards modesty and delicate respect, which he enjoys in intercourse with himself--in accordance with an innate heavenly mechanism which all the stars understand. It is an additional instance of his egoism, this artfulness and self-limitation in intercourse with his equals--every star is a similar egoist; he honours HIMSELF in them, and in the rights which he concedes to them, he has no doubt that the exchange of honours and rights, as the essence of all intercourse, belongs also to the natural condition of things. The noble soul gives as he takes, prompted by the passionate and sensitive instinct of requital, which is at the root of his nature. The notion of "favour" has, Inter Pares, neither significance nor good repute; there may be a sublime way of letting gifts as it were light upon one from above, and of drinking them thirstily like dew-drops; but for those arts and displays the noble soul has no aptitude. His egoism hinders him here: in general, he looks "aloft" unwillingly--he looks either FORWARD, horizontally and deliberately, or downwards--he knows that he is on a height." [N., BGE, 265]

Great stuff. It would be ignoble to relinquish the object of love because no matter how realistically hopeless consummation becomes with time, the original feeling of need/desire is the source of continual growth and refinement (which elevates man/creates distance with others, makes one noble, makes one stand out to the one loved )

I understand what you are saying, and that is a nice thought in itself.

But no, Han [I should coin a new name for this!], is always Self-first. The Source would be one's own pride, that distinguished the other in Its selectivity..., and so whatever happens, however the other relates to it, always becomes a question of one's own pride being at stake. This is not for bargain, no compromises here.
Will add to this later.

A clip from Pirates of the Carribean. They are at the world's end and the sun is setting and nothing's there, but the map says that is where the sun is rising, and up is down... so they rock the ship and go down... right to the bottom of the world and at a certain point, something
clicks and the horizon changes and the buyoncy pushes the ship upwards to the other side of the horizon where the sun is rising...

Han is such a psychic point, where you suffer so much in the down-going, and if you could endure that suffering, that protraction, without breaking off or retreating, if you manage to stay on the Wargasm, the same threatening to drown you would be the same one lifting you up to a diff. shore:

"The intellectual haughtiness and loathing of every man who has suffered deeply--it almost determines the order of rank HOW deeply men can suffer--the chilling certainty, with which he is thoroughly imbued and coloured, that by virtue of his suffering he KNOWS MORE than the shrewdest and wisest can ever know, that he has been familiar with, and "at home" in, many distant, dreadful worlds of which "YOU know nothing"!--this silent intellectual haughtiness of the sufferer, this pride of the elect of knowledge, of the "initiated," of the almost sacrificed, finds all forms of disguise necessary to protect itself from contact with officious and sympathizing hands, and in general from all that is not its equal in suffering. [N., BGE, 270]

Han is that Pride that comes from such Suffering.

For example, it is the exalted violence in creating as much painful distance/intimacy as possible between that internal female and male within one, without relinquishing.

One could call the heat from this suffering as Tapas [sanskrit] or Seidhr[germanic] or Greek kremamai, kremnos; a self-generated heat giving form/order to oneself. Han is this seething, heating or boiling up in the sense of "untiring". Untiring endurance.

"From blazing Fervour kindled to its height, Order was born." [Rig Veda, 10.190]

Han is the point of Maximum Tension. The point of Max. Order.

Han / The Sigma Empty
PostSubject: Re: Han / The Sigma Han / The Sigma EmptySat Jan 26, 2013 7:27 am

The Pluto-nic Outlaw, the Play-er, and the Pledge:

"The player who trespasses against the rules or ignores them is a "spoil-sport". The spoil-sport is not the same as the false player, the cheat; for the latter pretends to be playing the game and, on the face of it, still acknowledges the magic circle. It is curious to note how much more lenient society is to the cheat than to the spoil-sport. This is because the spoil-sport shatters the play-world itself. By withdrawing from the game he reveals the relativity and fragility of the play-world in which he had temporarily shut himself with others. He robs play of its illusion-a pregnant word which means literally "in-plai' (from inlusio, illudere or inludere) . Therefore
he must be cast out, for he threatens the existence of the play-community. The figure of the spoil-sport is most apparent in boys' games. The little community does not enquire whether the
spoil-sport is guilty of defection because he dares not enter into the game or because he is not allowed to. Rather, it does not recognize "not being allowed" and calls it "not daring". For it,
the problem of obedience and conscience is no more than fear ofpunishment. The spoil-sport breaks the magic world, therefore he is a coward and must be ejected. In the world ofhigh serious ness, too, the cheat and the hypocrite have always had an easier time of it than the spoil-sports, here called apostates, heretics, innovators, prophets, conscientious objectors, etc. It sometimes happens, however, that the spoil-sports in their turn make a new community with rules of its own. The outlaw, the revolutionary, the cabbalist or member of a secret society, indeed heretics of all kinds are of a highly associative if not sociable disposition, and a certain
element of play is prominent in all their doings.

The conception Frobenius has of the mental process in question is roughly as follows. In archaic man the experience of life and nature, still unexpressed, takes the form of a "seizure"-being seized on, thrilled, enraptured. "The creative faculty in a people as in the child or every creative person, springs from this state of being seized." "Man is seized by the revelation of fate." "The reality of the natural rhythm of genesis and extinction has seized hold of his
consciousness, and this, inevitably and by reflex action, leads him to represent his emotion in an act."

The thrill, the "being seized" by the phenomena of life and nature is condensed by reflex action, as it were, to poetic expression and art. It is difficult to describe the process ofcreative imagination in words that are more to the point, though they can hardly be called a true "explanation". The mental road from aesthetic or mystical, or at any rate meta-logical, perception of cosmic order to ritual play remains as dark as before.

Play and Pledge:
The difference lies rather in the fact that "play" moves and develops along the line of the concrete while pjlegen does so along the line of the abstract; both, however, being semantically akin to the play sphere.
We might call it the sphere of ceremonial. Among the oldest significations ofpflegen occurs the "celebrating of festivals" and "the exhibition of wealth"-whence the Dutch plechtig: "ceremonious", "solemn". In form, the German Pflicht and the Dutch Plicht correspond
to the Anglo-Saxon pliht/

In one of the songs of Hadewych, nun of Brabant (13th century) there is the
following verse:
Der minnen ghebruken, dat es een spel, Dat niemand wei ghetoenen en
mach, Ende al mocht dies p1eget iet toenen wei, Hine canst verstaen,
dies noijt en plach.
[Liedeven van Hadewijch, ed. Johanna Snellen (Amsterdam, 1 907) .]

Plegen can here be understood unhesitatingly as play. Englishplight) .l While the Dutch and German words mean "duty" and hardly anything else, pliht means primarily "peril", secondarily
'foffence", "fault", "blame", and finally "pledge", "engagement" . The verb plihtan has the sense of "exposing one self to danger", "to compromise", "to oblige". As to pledge, Mediaeval Latin formed the word plegium from the Germanic plegan; and plegium in its turn became the Old French pleige whence the Englishpledge.

The oldest meaning of this is"surety", "warrant", "hostage", hence "gage" in the sense of a challenge or a "wager" ("wage" being a doublet of "gage" ) , and finally the ceremony of taking on the "engagement", and so "the drinking" of a pledge or of someone's health, a promise or a
vow.

Who can deny that in all these concepts-challenge, danger, contest, etc.-we are very close to the play-sphere? Play and danger, risk, chance, feat-it is all a single field of action where something is at stake. One is tempted to conclude that the words play and pflegen together with their derivatives are not only formally but semantically identical.

This brings us back to the relationship between play and contest, and contest and strife in the more general sense. In all Germanic languages and in many others besides, play-terms are regularly applied to armed strife as well. Anglo-Saxon poetry to limit ourselves to but one example - is full of such terms and phrases. Armed strife, or battle, is called heado-lac or beadu-lac, literally "battle-play"; or asc-plega, "spear-play". In these com pounds we are dealing without a doubt with poetic metaphors, a fully conscious transfer of the play-concept to the battle-concept. The same is true, if less obviously, of the line "Spilodun ther Vrankon" ("there played the Franks") in the Old High German song called the "Ludwigslied" , celebrating the victory of the king of "Vest Francia, Ludwig III, over the Norsemen at Saucourt in 88 I .

All the same it would be rash to assert that every use of the word "play" in connection with serious strife is nothing but poetic licence. We have to feel our way into the archaic sphere of thought, where serious combat with weapons and all kinds of contests ranging from the most trifling games to bloody and mortal strife were comprised, together with play proper, in the single fundamental idea of a struggle with fate limited by certain rules. Seen in this way, the application of the word "play" to battle can hardly be called a conscious metaphor. Play is battle and battle is play.

In certain archaic forms of warfare the play-element finds immediate and, comparatively speaking, more pleasant expression. We are once more dealing with that same sphere of archaic thought in which chance, fate, judgement, contest and play lie side by side as so many
holy things. It is only natural that war too should fall under this head. One wages war in order to obtain a decision of holy validity.

The test of the will of the gods is victory or defeat. So that instead of trying out your strength in a contest, or throwing dice, or consulting the oracle, or disputing by fierce words-all of which may equally well serve to elicit the divine decision-you can resort to war. As we have seen, the connection between decision and Deity is explicit in the German word for ordeal-"Gottesurteil" , though fundamentally the ordeal is simply judgement, any judgement whatsoever. Every decision acquired by the ritually correct forms is a "judgement of God". It is only secondarily that the technical idea of the ordeal is asso ciated with definite proofs of miraculous power.
In order to understand these associations we have to look beyond our customary division between the juridical, the religious, and the politicaL What we call "right" can equally well, archaically speaking, be "might"-in the sense of "the will of the gods" or "manifest superiority". Hence an armed conflict is as much a mode ofjustice as divination or a legal proceeding. Finally, since a holy significance attaches to every decision, war itself might conceivably be regarded as a form of divination." [Huizinga, Homo Ludens]

"Only the most spiritual human beings are permitted beauty, beautiful things: only in their case is benevolence not weakness. Pulchrum est paucorum hominum: the good is a privilege. On the other hand, nothing is more strictly forbidden them than ugly manners or a pessimistic outlook, an eye that makes ugly - to say nothing of indignation at the collective aspect of things. Indignation is the privilege of the Chandala; pessimism likewise. 'The world is perfect' - thus speaks the instinct of the most spiritual, the affirmative instinct -: 'imperfection, everything beneath us, distance between man and man, the pathos of this distance, the Chandala themselves pertain to this perfection'.

The most spiritual human beings, as the strongest, find their happiness where others would find their destruction: in the labyrinth, in severity towards themselves and others, in attempting; their joy lies in self-constraint: with them asceticism becomes nature, need, instinct. They consider the hard task a privilege, to play with vices which overwhelm others a recreation.... Knowledge - a form of asceticism. - They are the most venerable kind of human being: this does not exclude their being the most cheerful, the most amiable. They rule not because they want to but because they are; they are not free to be second in rank." [N., The AntiChrist, 57]

"The Imperium Romanum which we know, which the history of the Roman province teaches us to know better and better, this most admirable of all works of art in the grand style, was a beginning, its structure was calculated to prove itself by millennia - to this day there has never been such building, to build in such a manner sub specie aeterni has never been so much as dreamed of! - This organization was firm enough to endure bad emperors: the accident of persons must have no effect on such things - first principle of all grand architecture." [ib., AC, 58]

Many (most) South Koreans are unaware of this film. For my recent birthday I held a viewing of it with some friends. On viewing the scene where the blacksmith sculpts the monster and dies, a Korean around my age said, "Ah, the monster is born from han."

Keeping his comment and this thread in mind, I found the film more interesting. Thanks for that.

How do the North Koreans, or at least how did the Dear Leader's cadre, conceive of han?

Indeed if the monster is han embodied, one doesn't want to think of it as mere butthurt resentment--definitely the North Korean ideologues do not. Pulgasari is the soul of the elder blacksmith peasant patriarch inspiring the peasantry to greater productivity and self-reliance (capitalism, industry). A necessary moment in the dialectic movement toward [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Maybe Satyr would say it is also a masculine move.

But his unchecked hunger would mean the end of the People, the Nation, the blood which brought him to life. He would use them up, then abandon them, presumably moving on to do the same to other suffering salts-of-the-earth all over the world.

His faithful daughter, the feminine Collective, must negate/absorb his masculine, usurping, "spoil-sport" (?) han into her feminine matrix. She will preserve his hungry (Plutonic?) spirit, nurture it, but keep it bound by the duties of kinship and filial piety. As matriarch she will preserve the traditions, the national identity of the Korean masses/peasantry. The final dialectic moment, when the wronged peasant patriarch's wandering destructive spirit is finally grounded in the earth. The self-reliance of the People of North Korea in their ancestral homeland: their national-socialist Utopia.

My favorite scene is where the hot shamanesses put him down with magic spells. Then his daughter's blood brings him back.

CW, Nice to hear you had a good one.

Need time to see the film; will revert to you on this later. But from your description of it, I can already tell its not what I call Han.
I call it Han because I encountered this kind of intense realism that I felt inside me first through Korean cinema - the couple of movies I mentioned. Drive [2011] is the closest Western I can think in modern times - the foolish rom-antique excess.
I'm basically referring to a kind of Plutonism, maybe even an antares-t attitude.
Plutonism is about well-being, about good health, about self-joy - i.e. to say a roman-tique and rom-antique aggression...
Whenever I can afford to take myself seriously, I call it the Weal to Power. So original !... and yet semblance deceives amongst the most alike.. ; )
Early days.

You're lucky to be living in Korea; Jeju is supposedly an irresistible paradise...

I'd give anything to watch first day first show of any film by Kim ki-duk!
Chinese films are concerned with man and society - social ills, abuses, human sensibility, aspirations, dreams; Japanese films are concerned with pushing the human shock limit - bizzare, horror, violence, pink sex, rigour and discipline, futurism, fear factors, simulations, whacko.
Korean films are so realistic, I love it. So natural, and what it means to be human in all its sleazy, mundane realism, just sheer Human Ego... Their portrayals are mostly joyful or poignantly bleak, and sincere, silly, silent and intense. They keep depths simple and real.

Thank you for sharing that film CW.
I understand your comments better now that I've seen it.

Yes. So the Pulgasari is a product of Han in the sense it comes out of a man's raging pride saying, "I've lived all my life as a creator, and I will go down as one...".
The feminine is as you say, the te(/a)mpering element that collapses the ego-drive.
The rage of Achilles is just short of cannibalism; his 'humanity' is what stops him.

But, what I mean by Han is something Plutonic.

For example, N. says, "Under conditions of peace the warlike man attacks himself." [BGE, 76]

"Increscunt animi, virescit volnere virtus.
(The spirits increase, vigor grows through a wound.)"
- Aulus Gellius, Noctes Atticae, 18.11

A real Plutonic creature when faced with nothing to consume, would automatically set upon itself. Its the way of Vigour - weal - wellbeing.

A Ur-orboric vitality.

Eyes wrote:
I think I know what Pagans mean by magick, I've attempted to summarize it early in this thread. Magick is the Matrix, it's mind over matter. It's the belief that social constructs, words, terms, phrases, symbols, rituals, prayers, song and dance have power over nature, that we can bend or break the laws of nature with some or all our thoughts, words and deeds, it's philosophical equivalent is idealism, it's the melding and superseding of the mental with and over the physical. The Old testament is a kind of magick, God said let there be light, and there was light. In other words, thoughts and feelings and words, consciousness creates reality, rather than the other way 'round, it's the opposite of the scientific, mechanistic world view, and although I'm open to it, I'm not claiming to know all there is to know about the cosmos, I'm highly skeptical for obvious reasons. In my 28 years I've yet to see anything even remotely convincing. I've been to a few fortune tellers and soothsayers just out of curiosity and I wasn't at all impressed, it was downright pitiful. To me, it seems like wishful, childish thinking, but maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, that I can accept, but the one I hate is when they tell me that I have to believe first, then I'll see, that one really gets to me I just wanna slap them in the face. You see these witches specialize in magick, apparently they know how to say the right words in order to bend it to their will. Pagans have incorproated some JudeoChristian metaphysics into their sorcery. In ancient times, there was no right or black magick per say, all magick was shades of grey, now there's strictly white and black magick, or positive, creative magick and negative, destructive magick. Another thing, you could say Monotheism monopolized magick, now only God could use magick, mortals couldn't. This was to partly remove superstition from the world, but if magick is real, perhaps it was a plot to monopolize magick by negativistic spirit beings like the Archons, or what David Icke calls reptilian humaniods or reptoids. In idealistic metaphysics, thought is absoltue and thought created the world. So all of relaity becomes a dream, a construct. Conscious beings create reality and then they enter it to, I don't know, have fun. In antimaterial traditions they enter it through some flaw or some sin, in ones more firendly, they enter it to have fun, so they apparently impose artificial constraints upon themselves restricting their consciousness and their mobility, we divine beings, and then we forget our true origins in the land of thought or the astral plane, and suddenly reality becomes a nighmare we can't break free from. Now I call that wishful thinking, the world of sense experience is a hologram and what we are is infinite consciousness just fucking around here. But whatever, that's where this shit leads when you take it to its logical conclusion.

In response to the above quote, and the Pulgasari movie, and Knowing 'Myself';

There is a certain gravity of the heart, that slows down reaction time and you have an inert sphere like the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], at the subconscious bottom. Here, everything is stripped to the bare. Here, there is a vitality or an 'intelligence' of the Sphinx's many eyes from which perspective, almost nothing looks repulsive. 'Nothing is true, Everything is permitted' kind of monstrous vitality. Imagine a deep Raging ocean unpolluted by anything that most would find repulsive or disgusting or evil... that would be a point so close to life and death.

Everyone has this plutonic point, where the logic of their being such and such, cannot be exceeded. A point of vitality where their self becomes a Law. Because there is an interconnectedness with the world, where everything cannot exceed its own Law, a certain point,,, this point is what Crowley would call magical. Its the one 'true' thing against which even the whole world has to bend before you and grant you your 'wishes' within the power of your logic, because one's Law determines the world in its logical necessity of being what it is, just as much as it is determined by it. The more true one is, to this raging point and possesses the cold balance to act from it, and the more this point almost coincides with life, almost becoming a monster of Pride, sheer Ego, where One Is Law,,, the more 'magical' will life be; an overflowing voluptuous love sparing nothing in its affirmation: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law".
Like in the film above, how the monster Pulgasari is born from a dying man's Han, his pride,.. a 'magical wish' coming true.
Magic is the power of/from/through our logical necessity. It is our weal-to-power.

I call it the Whore point.

Where one is self-severe, chisels away all unnecessary clutter and strips down to oneself to the bare minimum, to one's law.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It is an overflowing detachment...

"There is a noble and dangerous carelessness that permits a profound inference and insight: the carelessness of the self-assured and overrich soul that has never troubled about friends but knows only hospitality, and practices, and knows how to practice, only hospitality - heart and home open to anyone who cares to enter, whether beggar or cripple or king. This is genuine geniality: whoever has that, has a hundred "friends" but in all probability not a single friend." [N., WTP 939]

The Whore is where we go to recover ourselves.

A point of vitality.

Before which, one is no longer ashamed of being who one Is.

The Whore keeps it Simple.

A compelling magic.

It can have a hold on us.

"She lingers, smolders and burns, piercing the root of the situation
with ice cold resentment in her eyes until, unable to contain the
unaccountable flame in her heart, she will explode with the violence
of an erupting volcano, clearing out the debris of hidden subconscious
distortions, and laying the souls of others, shivering and naked,
before the face of truth.
For those who insist on denying her in confrontation, it can cause
intolerable pain, for her force is the combination of fire and ice,
which sears and reopens wounds long since buried and hidden from view."

Before which, no amount of anger, no dirt, no accusations, no imperfections, no raving, no injustice of it all, can fill one with hatred.

Because...

"You horrify and petrify me,
to wear the crown that just astounds me,
you terrorise and paralyse me,
you've lost the plot and should be shot down.
You have it all.
You’re just a whore and nothing more,
your smile is pain yet you remain,
walking tall and that appalls me,
you’re bred like swine but still
you'll die in our arms,
‘cos you have it all." [Artist: Archive, 'Whore']

The Whore is weal, wealth, vitality.
"An overrich virgin soul, that only knows how to practice hospitality; home and heart open to all..."

Virginity is a tremendous Protraction, resisting from giving into all, giving into anything at the slightest stimulus. A tense and intense severity. A holding back, a spirit of reservedness.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

In its virgin-cleanliness, the Whore affirms and accomodates everything, every fate as its own, almost coinciding with life...

It gives back everything its dignity, its Magic - even the word 'Whore' that is touted dirty.

I seize it and claim it for Myself.

The Whore has it all.

"The ultimate test of fitness, the Pluto function strips away all but the essential core of being, and modulates values and consciousness to a larger, more inclusive, trans-Saturnian context.
It signifies literal and figurative death. A pertinent image here is that of a burial – a dead body that used to contain the live spirit is buried underground, no more to be seen. In the same way, Pluto helps us get rid of things that no longer contain any life for us in the present.

As Pluto symbolically pierces the veil of Neptune, it also means disillusionment, the stripping away of glamour, deception and inflation - familiar hazards for those seeking greater consciousness.

“Economy of Energy” : "where have you let yourself go diminished?"

"The “razor’s edge” described in the world’s spiritual traditions."

The higher octave of Mars. Regeneration, death and rebirth. Purging, elimination and essentialization. Compulsion and extreme means. Dictators and their absolute power. Sheer egomania. Nuclear energy and its waste. Mass control and manipulation. Unrestrained catabolic forces and their results. Eruptions of the unconscious. Pluto carries the name, and much of the significance, of the Roman god of the underworld.
Pluto is the great reducer, stripping away all that is unessential, leaving nothing but what simply is. Ruthlessly destroying all glamour, Pluto symbolizes the power enabling one to cast away all but one’s essential dharma, one’s fundamental truth of being. In so doing, it presents the possibility of psychological and spiritual rebirth. Reinforcement, building up again after a crisis, titanic forces of renewal. The orgasm as “little death,” sexuality as “an overwhelming natural force of cosmic dimensions.” The intrusive cosmic force pressing the baby out of the birth canal."

The Whore takes its own time, it demands Trust;

"Pluto reflects the instinctive survival mechanism of the collective, and of nature itself. It is impersonal and ruthless, as nature herself is; one extinct species, one dead animal, is as nothing in the overall sweep of the evolution of organic life. When we are threatened with extinction, physical or psychological, we discover that we have Pluto in our chart. That which wishes to survive must destroy or transform what is life-threatening or no longer viable, internally and externally; and the process of cleansing of dangerously outworn and useless survival mechanisms, regenerating new survival mechanisms, is reflected by Pluto's 246-year transit through the zodiacal signs. Our Pluto generation - the age group born with Pluto in a particular sign - shares fundamental ways of defending itself in the face of what we perceive as a survival threat. Pluto moving through each astrological sign describes the changing spheres and ways in which the collective weeds out those elements which threaten its survival. None of us will live to see a complete Pluto cycle; we are part of something larger, in which our individual lives and deaths are embedded. Therefore we have to take it on trust."

"The planet Pluto moves extremely slowly. Consequently, the experiences we have of Pluto in transit build very gradually and last a long time.
Collectively, we cannot handle Pluto, because we cannot handle vibrating at that slow rate. In fact, the etymological root of the word slowness is also the basis of words such as tardiness, apathetic, procrastination, and backwardness. Pluto is not part of the culture; he is in exile. We are uncomfortable with Pluto. We don't have the patience that Pluto demands.

The faster we move the more out of step we will be with Pluto's energy. In our daily lives, we synchronize our rhythm with Pluto when we slow down and relax – during sleep in the dream world or during meditation and relaxation.

The first thing we learn about our temple for Pluto is that it must be large enough to hold long and slow movement. Perhaps cavernous is a better word.

Plutonian sex is different. It is slow. Plutonian sex requires refinement, lots of time to develop, like Tantra, which is a form of conscious loving. It is painfully transforming at times. The rock star Rod Stewart sings about this:

And sometimes when we touch

The honesty's too much

And I have to close my eyes and hide...

The opposite of depth is not height, but shallowness. Pluto is the symbol of extremes, and it can represent the height of ecstasy as well as the depth of despair. Its opposite is simply nothingness.
Nothingness, in the sense that “nothing happens.” No ecstasy or despair, no wild success or failure, no risk and no reward. Like a flat line in EKG that symbolizes death.
Pluto Aspects Demand Depth…Or Nothingness, “all or nothing” extremes.

The Terror of Deficient Emptiness:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Some have said that Pisces is vaporized water; Cancer, liquid water; and Scorpio (and thus Pluto), frozen water. Even scientists call Pluto the icy planet. The difference between water and ice is basically slower molecules in the ice. Again, we see the theme of slowness. As I described earlier, fire is a symbolic representation of the yang side of Pluto. Ice, is an expression of the yin. Life can be preserved in ice for eons. But also the burning sensation of dry ice... It behooves us to remember that icy glaciers initially carved our landscapes. This is moving at Pluto's pace. This energy comes on slowly and sometimes inconspicuously. Yet, Pluto penetrates everything, moves and expands through us – like an earthquake or a volcanic eruption – and shakes us slowly and repeatedly after a buildup of energy.

After a Plutonian experience, we may go into "cold shock." When we are unconscious, we are out cold, and when we physically die, we really chill out, so to speak. After we throw up, we shiver. A drug addict goes cold turkey in the jail cell. We also murder in cold blood. Obviously, Pluto is comfortable in the realm of cold.
Most of us are uncomfortable being cold. But then, Pluto is not about being comfortable.

It is invisible, secretive, often unconscious power. The more noise we make in the outside conscious world and the less we therefore listen to our inner sounds, the more this unconscious and invisible Pluto energy can really be the source of our actions. In other words, Pluto is profoundly psychological. To delve into this aspect of Pluto, we must therefore quiet down the noise. Being secretive also means being silent. The archetype is not chatty. In this silence, there is wisdom. It presents the possibility to hear beyond our physical voice to our inner voice. It demands absolute silence.

Dark, freezing cold, and silent... we enter here naked, at the edge of death.

Walk into a forest at 3:00 a.m. The night is pitch black, except for a Crescent Moon that gives off just enough light for you to find your way through the trees along the path. You come to a pond, a  small black mirror on the forest floor. It is completely surrounded by trees, and their roots are growing into the water. The heavenly silver sliver of the Moon is reflected in the black surface. Not a ripple can be seen. You break the surface tension to test the water, and it is ice cold. You strip off all your clothes. Naked, you swim out into the middle of the pond and dive straight down, swimming deeper and deeper. Just as you wonder whether you might drown, you find yourself breathing the icy water. You continue to swim. There seems to be no bottom to this pond. Somewhere down below, you come to a steady float. Here you do what is done best in ponds: You ponder. As you float in this watery place, people, ghosts, memories, and old lovers, dead or alive, float by. Undulation is easy here.
Deep, sexual, isolated, intense, obsessional, Machiavellian, destructive, reformer, nonconformist, occultist, magician, violent, neurotic, fanatic, underground, demonic, aggressive, free, revealing, searching, researcher, introspective, loner, enterprising, creative, detached, mystic, transformative, regenerative, occult.
Later, as you re-surface, re-dress, and re-flect, you feel empowered, re-seeded, and reborn.

Just as the caterpillar spins a cocoon and enters a dormant phase of intense invisible changes as it metamorphoses into a butterfly, we descend into raw darkness, stripped of our safe concepts, meaning, and familiar life structures and personal history, and are called upon to submit to the unknown. As our internal debris is dislodged, we are challenged to let go, to purge ourselves of dead weight, physically, emotionally and mentally. Our most cherished dreams, achievements, relationships, or ideas about ourselves might have to die. Sweeping external changes are often made after Pluto transits, but the inner phase of the process rarely passes without intense suffering. When we must "wait without hope", in the words of T.S. Eliot, few of us do so without first putting up a good fight, as Pluto also mobilises our deep survival instincts. Hence the life-and-death intensity associated with it.
From the Plutonian perspective, life is a series of endings. It challenges us to look death in the eye, let go, and be transformed.

My angels will take flight as well.

Despair! For thou mayest deceive the Virgin, and thou mayest cajole the Mother; but what wilt thou say unto the ancient Whore that is throned in Eternity? For if she will not, there is neither force nor cunning, nor any wit, that may prevail upon her.

Thou canst not woo her with love, for she is love. And she hath all, and hath no need of thee. And thou canst not woo her with gold, for all the Kings and captains of the earth, and all the gods of heaven, have showered their gold upon her. Thus hath she all, and hath no need of thee. She hath it all, and hath no need of thee. Despair! Despair!

Nor canst thou cling to her knees and ask for pity; nor canst thou cling to her heart and ask for love; nor canst thou put thine arms about her neck, and ask for understanding; for thou hast all these, and they avail thee not. Despair! Despair!

Then I took the Flaming Sword, and I let it loose against Typhon, so that his head was cloven asunder, and the black triangle dissolved in lightnings.” [Crowley, The Vision and the Voice]

The Whore cannot be surpassed because it has it all... it is the abyss of life itself.
It cannot be rationally contained. It cannot be seduced with indifference...does reality care?
It cannot be flattered and won through gifts. It cannot be tempered with good-will or possessed with "love".
But it is in and through the heroic celebration of oneself, the disciplined or awakened en-joy-ment of being who one is, no longer representing something but becoming unashamedly Self, one weds the heart of the scarlet harlot...

“The Universe is the Practical Joke of the General
at the expense of the Particular, quoth FRATER
PERDURABO, and laughed.
But those disciples nearest to him wept, seeing the
Universal Sorrow.
Those next to them laughed, seeing the Universal Joke.
Below these certain disciples wept,
Then certain laughed.
Others next wept.
Others next laughed.
Next others wept.
Next others laughed.
Last came those that wept because they could not
see the Joke, and those that laughed lest they
should be thought not to see the Joke, and thought
it safe to act like FRATER PERDURABO.
But though FRATER PERDURABO laughed
openly, He also at the same time wept secretly;
and in Himself He neither laughed nor wept.
Nor did He mean what He said.” [Crowley, The Book of Lies]

To the ancient romans, the genius was nothing but encountering, experiencing, and affirming this deathless whorish spirit switching fluidly in and out, with such fury of mirth and tempest, one cannot grasp it... this current of the genius was called the Kobold.

PostSubject: Re: Han / The Sigma Han / The Sigma EmptyWed Aug 21, 2013 4:15 am

Han sounds to me like the gods within unleashed.
Particular gods.
Gods of War and Death take over the individual and possess it.
That kind of savage, archetypal, primal, focussed state of mind is usually only sustainable for a short time. But...some individuals may have dropped into the pond and drowned when they were young, leaving them with only small time windows of non-possessed-ness. Nobody relates to a god and gods do not relate to others - that function does not exist. This is what an absolute self entails.

About the sense of playing a game.
All is play and game - a most serious game and play - played ruthlessly by using all of the self. It's all honest. The spoil-sport ruins the game... but, he ruins the game only for those who don't play it in a serious manner. He breaks the rules, he ends a game within a game. If all is a serious game then there is no real spoil-sport - he isn't ending anything.
To complain about a game being played is part of the game. The game surrounding any game. To break it and mix it up is just another game.
That's what a spoil-sport does - he breaks the rules and by breaking the rules he makes the cheaters lose their advantage.

Han is unpredictable - it breaks rules - pride can be strong enough at times to defy all opposition no matter the odds and costs. It's an element of chaos - ruining it for all the non-serious players, the cheats.

At last - there are no 'all spoil-sport' and no 'all cheats', it's always a mixture... of many things.

The self-possessed kind perhaps.
Could be the reason why the highest ranking card in many german-card-deck using games is depicted by a young woman.

Lyssa, you think that women are just sex pieces to be looked upon. Shame on you...

Is this not the ultimate way men look at us? So how is it a man can pass for a woman? He can't.

A whore is poor, hence the rhyme. A man needs a (wo)llet. A woman needs a handbag; the nicest handbag money can buy.

The wallaby carries a baby in her pouch. This is nature's example of a woman's closeness to her baby that cannot be replaced by a man.

Then you haven't read what I've written; because I was trying to say the very opposite.

Although midgets like tyr/anus and primal/rage and dykes like blurry Hate women and see them as nothing more than sex objects [in blurry's case, a man can be interested in a pretty girl only for one reason xxx - that betrays her own mind], and try to shame them down because they can't rise up,, I was saying, the Whore is always what exceeds such sexual objectifications. I use it as a poetic metaphor for Life. And an excess woman's Spirit - dionysian nature.
In that sense, the Whore has it All, and it takes more than sexual baits like these dikheads tyr/anus and primal/rage throw selling their images. That is not only pitiful, but funny when you see the irony of it.

Two morons saying all women are sluts and good for nothing more than a f---, are the ones Prostituting themselves.

The ones saying all women are sluts are sluts themselves.

There's always something beautiful to recover even in the worst dirt,, and nobody owns a word and therefore a concept... the word 'whore' has been shamed by life-haters,,, I have enough spirit to ennoble it, and to ennoble even the worst and shameful thrown my way. because I'm a Lover.

Quote :

I guess you've misunderstood.

Let me differentiate something for you.

There are sluts like primal and anus who just want a bang, and want to "conquer" women to feel masculine; they need this to feel validated as a "man". There are also MRAs who blame and hate women for being women - their free-spirited flow. They say, "damn that river".

Then there are some real men, real gentlemen who want to "conquer" women and say "dam that river",, to regulate the flow and the current and the tempest, to be able to enjoy women, because they love women... the nature, the feminine... because they are already men and need no validation.

Not all men who are out to "conquer" are evil oppressors, atleast in my view.
I discriminate between the lowlives and the noble ones.

Anddddd,,,, no VV, all...

So says the mind raised in Modernity, and its nihilistic, materialism and hedonism:

Help me see....help me see, the wonder which is me.
Help me enjoy, help me enjoy, deeply, the beauty which is me.

When I read I read to find better ways to masturbate.
I read pamphlets that help me reflect, mirror, enjoy my image all the more profoundly.

I want my mind to match the symmetry I've inherited but cannot justify.
I want to accentuate the spell, not break it when I open my mouth to speak.
I want to impress, to be impressive.
My interest in the world, my philosophical bent, rotates around the vortex of my need to belong, to be appreciated, to be popular.
I will not tolerate bad tidings, no matter how real they may be, I only want to hear what is positive, or what can be turned into the positive.
Philosophy, thinking, for me is a form of self-healing.

Slut? Thanks for the compliment. Being a man-whore requires game - that is why people admire players, man-whores.

Listen up, Cinderella, I know how biology works. Love, romanticism, those warm " lovey-dovey" feelings you get when holding your significant other's hand in the park, etc are ploys of biology. They are things meant to keep the conscious mind hooked in the game of reproductionism. Love in of itself is infantile, romantic-idealist tomfoolery. Females don't respect males for their intrinsic being and males don't respect females for their intrinsic being either. We both use each other, ultimately, as means to an end: reproduction. I embrace this to the core, so me saying that women are sex-objects is a truth based in biology - not something that emanates from misogyny.

Quote :
Like monetary economy, the economy of anger crosses its critical threshold when anger rises and moves from a state of local accumulation and punctual expenditure [revenge to] that of a systematic investment and cyclical growth most notably, revolution, especially in its global ambition.
Quote :
So a move to smaller economies by redefining the human condition so that an ethics of dignity prevails? Words expressed honestly (openly) that effectively attack the system of internalization without being consumed in an organization of object-orientation.. The gradual accumulation of speakers and actors that express this anger to varying degrees and ways.

Well, if you read this whole thread from start, you'll understand what I mean by "love" - certainly the opposite of any romantic emotion like you understand it. Love is self-first, an act-ive composure that honours Itself unsparingly in everything and everyone it encounters.
Its honouring myself in the lowly, the ugly, the trash to the noble, the beautiful and the rare. The way I see it, to interpret myself into everything and honour myself there, and everywhere, is virulent egoism.
And does the sun care whether its rays and tentacles fall on a garden of spring flowers or a pool of filth and dirt? Doesn't its light seep through and fall over everything... ?
It loves its way out and through, weaving it all...
This way,, my kind of Love says even the ugliest housefly buzzing is a sky-panther.
And that sun shining is a sky-octopus... acht-opus... 8 8...
How I interpret myself into something is an expression of the degree of my self-love.

To Freud, eros was the vital principle; to Sloterdijk, thymos was the vital principle.
I favour Nietzsche - self-mirth is Love-Rage; aggressive self-assertion.
This is part of what I mean by Love then. Ruthless Loving is the attaining of a severe clarity - knowing why you do what you do; knowing why you like/dislike what you like/dislike. And so, when you honour your Self in others for the reasons you value, how can one turn reactionary when midgets spew vile poverties or enticing flatteries at and about you...?
How do your value sentiments change should others appreciate or despise you? It ought to make no difference.
And now extend that to life at large. What injustice is there that I should not already make mine? What justice is there that I should not already make mine? What ugliness is there that I should not already make mine?

"Your soul aspires insatiably after treasures and jewels, because your virtue is insatiable in wanting to give.
You compel all things to come to you and into you, that they may flow back from your fountain as gifts of your love." [N., TSZ]

Love is being Sang-froid in your own mirth.

Cost/benefit anxieties do not factor in for me. All grand love is beyond the pleasure/pain principle.

I embrace this to the core, so me saying that women are sex-objects is a truth based in biology - not something that emanates from misogyny.
I recognize that as a norm; indeed exploitation is the standard. And from there, it depends whether one submits to the norm and embraces it, or one stands apart and defines oneself on his own terms.

Its good to shape and cultivate oneself by projecting desired ideals,,, but a real individuality only develops when ideals are born out of one's own sufferings and one's own joys - no matter how attractive or successful that guy standing there looks like or this person here has demonstrated.
Love shouldn't be a substitute for our unique problem solving capacities and our ability to face pain courageously; every reliance to external ideals, external love-support will only leave the core vacant and wobbling.

Let me also add, I respect those people who use the word "Love" cautiously and sacredly. However, I believe while the concept may get tainted and soiled and abused, the word itself is free-flowing and lively. Its upto us to employ it the way we want to self-assert, without being or feeling trapped inside language and words as a prison.
I'm not afraid of using the word "Love" just because its semantics have a slavish perversity upto the current times.
As long as I can make my spirit talk, my words are an extension and expression of what I am and what I intend them to be.

Lastly, no doubt there are slutty women as much as men-prostitutes, and the feminine is a degree of promiscuity in both genders, but to go about life saying "all women" are sluts to be conquered and sex-objects to bang and f--- around, reduces you to the level of a midget. Anyone who has such a Mono-view of love: 'only one kind of love exists - "use-value"',, defines his mother to be so as well, which means, he negates and sexually objectifies / feminizes his own self in the process.
Do you get it yet?

Slut, that you spoke on ILP about how you are only a more honest variant of the average businessman, tells me its not only your mercantile self, but you make a prostitution of honesty as well... as IF being honest about killing, pillaging, raping, cheating, etc. etc.  makes someone superior... do you see how retarded you are?
Your self-worth amounts to nothing when your fear of being overwhelmed by females makes you want to dominate them as sex-objects for a bang, and somehow being honest about it is supposed to count for something distinguishing. It doesn't.
