Ive been spending some time over the past few months playing Oculus Rift related games... and its having an impactful effect on my psyche, to the point of out of body experiences and drastically more vivid+imaginative dreams.
The most immersive of them, and immersiveness is the goal, would be VRchat - with a Second Life type of interface where in you can only hear other avatars that your 1st person avatar is physically near. I think that feature enables you to really feel like you are actually there.
Enter to get a piece of retardation and degeneracy, but mostly unthought bizarreness of random strangers.
I was just in this courtroom with five hentai avatars that had prepubescent British voices who were seriously and pretty intelligently role-playing an actual trial, with some guy in the audience section reminiscing about the things he used to do when he was their age and how things have changed - what the world had come to.
There's an extremely childlike joy and playfulness to it all. In short very much the beginning of something of I know not the result.

Seriously though, how are you supposed to play FPS games if you can't move around?

It all started with Savage: The Battle For Newerth. Great game, people got tired of it, so they made Savage 2. Had garbage modernized graphics and gameplay. Then they made League of Legends, which tards seemed to enjoy, a Pay To Win garbage game that was a down grade of Savage 1. Yes it had better graphics that Savage 1, but in Savage 1 you could customize the placement of towers, and build things like in StarCraft. They took that all away and also made unbalanced gameplay. A game for hipsters. Savage 1 was a better game than StarCraft, and they watered it down and turned it into a kiddie game for hipsters.

They are not simulations, they are games. Games are a simplified version of reality and optimized for competitive balance. Simulations are an attempt to replicate reality. An example of this is movies vs. documentaries. Movies sole purpose is entertainment, documentaries sole purpose is recreating reality. Though some documentaries can be more entertaining than some movies.
In any case, if Earth is a simulation, this is worrysome, the developers might have decided Earth is a garbage game, and pulled the plug to start armeggedon on a timer, for us to be invaded by aliens.

Okay, about the VR thing, I have decided it is rubbish, but not quite dog-shit level rubbish.
I finally took the plunge, I was simulatenously blown away and dissapointed.
First of all, VR excludes 50% of the population who does not have perfect vision, if you are not within a visual acuity level it will not work for you, unless you wear contacts, and I hate contacts.
Second, the other point is, it makes you paranoid as shit, like I went to reach out and touch something and accidentally assaulted the person in front of me because I did not know they were there, the VR felt real to me. Then I got paranoid of being utterly defenseless of my surroundings, like someone would rob me because my head was in the fake reality not even conscious of real life anymore at all.
Its like, when you are playing a videogame, you can hear feel and smell real life. But in VR, its like your brain completely no longer has any perception of the other world, you cant even hear feel or smell it.
And then its bonused fucked up by the fact you cant really touch or interact with anything in the VR.
So I honestly doubt VR will ever catch on to mainstream really, especially not at this price.
Self-driving cars are also another shit-show, when you stop and think about how absurd it is to be trapped inside a self-driving car that has no steering wheel, imagine going on a freeway turn at 80 mph, with no steering wheel, your life in the hand of a robot, its scary as shit, the only person who would want to do this either has gigantic balls or no balls at all. Will it catch on? Only if society goes full retard. Never go full retard.
