| Norm is weird, I don't know yet what to make of him.
I think the animal doctor for pets was not a common thing 30 to 40 years ago, definitely not in rural areas.
If the pet got too sick and was suffering and it became clear that it was not going to get better you killed it or you got someone to kill it for you, or you let it suffer.
From that perspective it makes sense to joke about animal hospitals.
It's this tension between, the luxury of having the resources to go to a doctor with one of your pets (dogs had a higher status than cats) and the old ways of doing things.

Which shocks me in a way, I've gone through changes constantly and challenge myself, and these people just repeat the same things year after year. |
