Modern refers to whatever is current - spanning every historical age and all human cultures - All people are modern for their time and place. Post-Modernity insinuates an end-of history - an end, a telos. giving it a -post' implied 'beyond' the current....the immanent, the forever coming future. A word-game, indicative of the Nihilistic dumbing-down into an inverted plant. A plant has no conception of a future. It is entirely past manifested as presence. A nihilist is the inversion of this simple, mind-less organism organism, proposing a life-form that has presence with no past, projecting into future, i.e., a presence with only a future and no past. So it is always 'post' never 'pre'. Always immanent, never present....its presence is mere image...so appearance is 'illusion', for such depraved minds. It believes it is a shadow of a forever absent future. This is exemplified in Trotsky's 'perpetual revolution'....a movement rebelling against its presence; rejecting itself, its past.
I see it different. I think it is measured by technology. For instance, humans living in the woods, inventing a wheel, deep down knew they were primitives. I don't think cavemen or native americans ever considered themselves to be modern. I think there is a fixed point in time, the Singularity. Whether or not humans will survive past the Singularity, only humans can decide. I think anything after the second millennium, 2000 is post modern. There is no comparable year to it in human history.

Ah, so for you if the other doesn't know it then he isn't it....is that it? So, a moron may not consider himself a moron, so he can't be one. You take yourself as the standard, so anything past is not Modern, and everything future is.....? super-modern. What about you looking back at your past self....was he primitive, compared to your Modernity? It's all relative....
Will men 2000 years from now be modern or post-modern, given that you are modern right now? What about people 2000 after those...will they be post-post-modern?
Maybe you can start [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], with conventional definitions.
To clarify further, the wiki you posted is more or less how I view it.
"Early modernity: 1500–1789 (or 1453–1789 in traditional historiography) Classical modernity: 1789–1900 (corresponding to the long 19th century (1789–1914) in Hobsbawm's scheme) Late modernity: 1900–1989"
However I revise it to 2000, the very last year where music was still good. And it goes back to the Hay paradox, how many pieces of hay can you take out before it ceases to be hay. So maybe not exactly the year 2000 but its a good round number. FYI I thought Star Wars Episode 1 was a good and artistic movie, everyone at my school was raggin me for liking the movie. They said they did not want prequels, and were more hopeful and excited to see 7, 8, and 9. Little did they know the future in store for them.
