Requires endurance, not only from the band.

Unfortunately Epica, Wintersun, pretty much any music today, is too much compressed (dynamic range).
I like their music, the melodic elements, the singing, it's very good but it's too dense. Part of it is probably the many layers playing at the same time but I suspect the one who really compressed it too much is the mastering guy.

I have no idea why they do that, especially to this kind of music and genre.
Are there that many zombies who listen to Wintersun while they are at the shopping mall or on the average radio channel while driving in their car so that there is some background noise to distract them from having to contemplate their depressing existence? - I don't think so.
Must be those grabblers/blabblers at the studios who have to mess up whatever they can.

With a genre like this I had to filter through a lot of crap to get to the good songs, but it's worth it

Kill him.

Anyways, something unrelated. Well, it's not usual for me to post this kind of music, but there's something catchy about this whole post-punk revival business. Mind you, I hate the genre. Most of it is crap. But there are catchy tunes. Like this one:

Indie pop, indie rock, synth rock, FIFA European White Guy's music, whatever it is.

Here's another one which I find catchy:

Can't stand Franz Ferdinand but these guys are kind of okay. There's something in these songs. Musically, of course. Not paying much attention to lyrics.

A couple more. These are proper synth pop tunes. Very likable.

Phoenix - Countdown

Phoenix - Lisztomania

Phoenix - 1901

I also like the "We Are The People" guys.

Horrible vocals, and yet, I like it.

This one sounds more consistent. (Beside that, I love Tarja.)

Teenage sensibilities, hmmm...
I've heard that Nightwish is "over-produced".
I'd say it's a bit too sanitised or something like that, "too" smooth in most parts.

I think their music is all tailored around the female voice of their singer. That's the focal point.
That itself is already very appealing to women (so probably to the feminine side in general). The voice has to be good, or at least interesting, then you already have the attention of women. In particular the emotions carried in the voice are very appealing to them. Don't know if this is only anecdotal but women seem to have a more difficult time to focus on and hear something like the bass or guitar playing in the band.

I like the music, but, I can see myself tiring of it and the kind of emotions they usually convey if listened to it too much.

It must be Anette's voice + melodies. They mix styles that do not blend well. One moment you're listening to battle music and another you're listening to your regular teenage pop Top 10 Hits music.

I want epic battle music.

I like it more than the version with the singing.
Reminds me in part of the Ride of the Valkyries.
I don't like everything about them but it's what I listen most to at the moment and I think it's very good.

I enjoy Johnny Cash a lot, I make my breakfast to it often. My grandfather played a lot of guitar and he liked johnny cash too.
