In conversation you wouldn't reveal knowledge to someone who doesn't deserve that knowledge, neither would you waste your time revealing knowledge to someone who wouldn't know what to do with it. But, then you wouldn't reveal vulnerabilities, willingly, either.

In a public forum, such as this, what is revealed to any is revealed to all. So we must guess at what is not revealed. Is it profound knowledge that the public doesn't deserve or wouldn't know what to do with or is it base knowledge; incomplete and filled with vulnerabilities?

For a woman sex is the beginning and the end of her sense of self, her power over man.

To be unable to get a reaction using sex is always followed by a sexual accusation: you are gay, or asexual, or impotent, or lack emotion and so on.
To a female a male who does not respond to her sexual and emotional gestures is frightening, because she cannot make sense of him. the only way she can understand is by using what she knows best: sex and emotion.

You see it everywhere: homophobe, misogynist, racist, all accusations of fear, by the ones who know fear in themselves. They put upon what they cannot comprehend what they can comprehend, to make it less incomprehensible.

With the MRA shame is the mention used, because it is shame that floods their minds, and having no ability to understand it or deal with it, they place it outside, and accuse the other of producing it.

Lavabit email service abruptly shut down citing government interference

Founder of service reportedly used by Edward Snowden said he would not be complicit in 'crimes against the American people'

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Quote :

The email service reportedly used by surveillance whistleblower Edward Snowden abruptly shut down on Thursday after its owner cryptically announced his refusal to become "complicit in crimes against the American people."

Lavabit, an email service that boasted of its security features and claimed 350,000 customers, is no more, apparently after rejecting a court order for cooperation with the US government to participate in surveillance on its customers. It is the first such company known to have shuttered rather than comply with government surveillance.

Silent Circle, another provider of secure online services, announced on later Thursday night that it would scrap its own encrypted email offering, Silent Mail.

The founder of Lavabait, Ladar Levison, wrote on the company's website: "I have been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly ten years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit." The news was first reported by Xeni Jardin the popular news site Boing Boing.

Levison said government-imposed restrictions prevented him from explaining what exactly led to his company's crisis point.

I feel you deserve to know what's going on – the first amendment is supposed to guarantee me the freedom to speak out in situations like this," Levison wrote. "Unfortunately, Congress has passed laws that say otherwise. As things currently stand, I cannot share my experiences over the last six weeks, even though I have twice made the appropriate requests.

Silent Circle said in a blogpostthat although it had not received any government orders to hand over information, "the writing is on the wall".

Privacy advocates called the moves unprecedented. "I am unaware of any situation in which a service provider chose to shut down rather than comply with a court order they felt violated the constitution," said Kurt Opsahl, a lawyer with the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Several technology companies that participate in the National Security Agency's surveillance dragnets have filed legal requests to lift the secrecy restrictions that prevent them from explaining to their customers precisely what it is that they provide to the powerful intelligence service – either wittingly or due to a court order. Yahoo has sued for the disclosure of some of those court orders.

The presiding judge of the secret court that issues such orders, known as the Fisa court, has indicated to the Justice Department that he expects declassification in the Yahoo case. The department agreed last week to a review that will last into September about the issues surrounding the release of that information.

There are few internet and telecommunications companies known to have refused compliance with the NSA for its bulk surveillance efforts, which the NSA and the Obama administration assert are vital to protect Americans. One of them is Qwest Communications, whose former CEO Joseph Nacchio – convicted of insider trading – alleged that the government rejected it for lucrative contracts after Qwest became a rare holdout for post-9/11 surveillance.

"Without the companies' participation," former NSA codebreaker William Binney recently told the Guardian, "it would reduce the collection capability of the NSA significantly."

Snowden was allegedly a Lavabit customer. A Lavabit email address believed to come from Snowden invited reporters to a press conference at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport in mid-July.

While Levinson did not say much about the shuttering of his company – he notably did not refer to the NSA, for instance – he did say he intended to mount a legal challenge.

"We've already started preparing the paperwork needed to continue to fight for the Constitution in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals," Levinson wrote. "A favorable decision would allow me resurrect Lavabit as an American company."

He continued: "This experience has taught me one very important lesson: without congressional action or a strong judicial precedent, I would strongly recommend against anyone trusting their private data to a company with physical ties to the United States."

Opsahl noted that the fact that Levinson was appealing a case before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals indicated the government had a court order for Lavabit's data.

"It's taking a very bold stand, one that I'm sure will have financial ramifications," Opsahl said.

"There should be more transparency around this. There's probably no harm to the national security of the United States to have it publicly revealed what are the legal issues here," Opsahl continued.

The justice department said it had no comment to make. Representatives from the NSA, White House and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

The grip is tightening.

Now the middle aged liberals are crawling out of the woodwork - the ones who during the eighties and nineties would have been outraged at any attempt to censor their self expression - but now calling for pop videos to be rated like films.

Quote :
Pop star Annie Lennox has described the sexualised imagery of modern pop videos as "dark" and "pornographic".

"I'm all for freedom of expression," she told BBC Radio 5 live, "but this is clearly one step beyond, and it's clearly into the realm of porn."

"How do you stop your kids being exposed to it? It's so powerful. You don't want to see your seven-year-old girls twerking all over the place."
Meanwhile, Western culture hits a new low, as genius rapper Juicy J offers $50,000 to the woman who can 'twerk' the best on video. Whilst these dumb bitches are queuing up to debase themselves I'd like to see the look on the faces of some feminists.

Two Golden Dawn members killed in drive-by shooting outside Athens office

Crisis-plagued Greece was thrown into further turmoil on Friday after two members of the far-right Golden Dawn party were shot dead in what police called a "terrorist attack" outside one of the organisation's offices in Athens.

Two men, described as a 20 and 23-year-old, died instantly in the drive-by shooting, according to a statement released by the extremist group.

"Two helmeted terrorists on a motorbike stopped in front of Golden Dawn's offices in [the northern Athens suburb of] Neo Iraklio while the office was open and a lot of people were [gathered around] its entrance," said the party.

"The co-rider got off [the bike] and in cold blood executed two young men at a distance of about half a metre. Before leaving the terrorists fired again … they literally emptied their weapons [of bullets] on top of them."

A third Golden Dawn member, identified as a 29-year-old father of one, was fighting for his life in an Athens hospital after being severely injured in the hail of gunfire.

Net Neutrality will depend on the masses willpower to enforce it. VirginMedia tried to get rid of it, and lost many of its customers in the process. Really I don't see anything stopping the Internet. Even Chinese like censorship is extremely easy to get around.

Failed asylum seeker kills three on bus

The man accused of stabbing to death a woman and two men on an express bus in western Norway was an asylum seeker from South Sudan who was due to be deported from Norway on Tuesday, VG has reported.

The 31-year-old, who was living at an asylum reception centre in Årdal, was due to be deported to Spain on Tuesday, after having his application rejected in June.

"This person had applied for asylum, and come to Norway in April," a spokesman for Norway's immigration directorate said. "He was rejected in June, and was supposed to be returned to Spain under the so-called Dublin Regulation."

The man is accused of killing the bus driver, Arve Haug Bagn (55) and Margaret Molland Sanden, a 19-year-old biotechnology student at the Oslo and Akerhus University College of Applied Sciences. The third victim, a Swedish man in his 50s, has not been named.

Sproutinghalo AKA Paul Philip Christiano is a professional dancer and choreographer who once had a bright future and promising career ahead of him -- that is, until he was convicted for the possession of child pornography in 2000. Now that he is bankrupt, unemployed, and living with his parents, he seeks the online support and friendship of other pedophiles in the GirlChat online community as a new member.

Christiano posted that he once fell for a woman named "Sarah", who was the mother of a 2 year old little girl. He states that Sarah knew of his conviction but chose to stay with him, until the father of her child threatened to sue for custody of his daughter if Sarah stayed in the relationship with Christiano.

Quite an odd character, Christiano posted on his MySpace blog that he sleeps with a doll, which he has named "Sarah."

Ancient Greek music brought back to life

An Oxford University classicist is bringing back to life the music of ancient Greece, unheard for thousands of years.

Ancient Greek music brought back to life

Dr Armand D'Angour, Fellow and Tutor in Classics at Jesus College, has embarked on a two-year research project, part-funded by the British Academy, to reconstruct the songs and music of the classical world.

Piecing together the lyrics, rhythms, instrumentation and notation through the painstaking study of ancient documents, he aims to show that the music is not lost beyond recovery.

Dr D'Angour said: 'Suppose that 2,500 years from now all that survived of the Beatles' songs were a few of the lyrics, and all that remained of Mozart and Verdi's operas were the words and not the music.

'Imagine if we could then reconstruct the music, rediscover the instruments that played them, and hear the words once again in their proper setting, how exciting that would be.

'This is about to happen with the classic texts of ancient Greece.'

China is also expanding its influence in Asia. Even where I live, all the major infrastructure projects are undertaken & funded by Chinese corporations, consequently strained our relationship with India.

It's not clear what the US long term strategy for Iraq is. They never had clear set of objectives right from the beginning. Most people thought US was after Iraqi oil when most of the oil contracts were claimed by China. I think they should have done what they did in Japan after WW2. They should have not overthrown the Sadam regime.

How do you define the universe?

Here is my take on the topic - Space and time are not things in themselves, i.e., they are tools of the mind, constructed from the mind like colors are. Colors don't exist separately from the mind; they are constructed by the mind to aid the organism in differentiation, so space and time are tools to aid the organism, to help it cope with reality. Imagine this akin to the way some say meaning is a tool to help the organism cope with reality. The truth is that there is neither space nor time. Reality is eternal, without beginning or end, thus no time. And space likewise is a mental artifice; reality is boundless and without context, thus there is no objective measuring points of A and B.

Some solipsists believe that all other apparent sentient creatures are mere ghost projections of their mind. An ontological-idealist isn't necessarily a solipsist.

Perception and the interpretation of perception is the basis of our understanding of reality, right, so when we formulate interpretations of sensual phenomena, for example assigning the value "blue" to the sky, we are creating that ideal of "blue" - but we are not creating the perception of blueness itself to which we assigned that value. The perception of blueness is photons of a particular spectrum impacting our retina.
He suggested that this perception of blueness could be altered through genetic engineering, which could be done I suppose, but wouldn't change the fact that photons of a particular spectrum are out there, impacting retinas.

The guy is trying to connect human conceptualization to object reality, kind of like Platonic Idealism. So in his way he is stating that reality is subject to the mind's wishes.

I don't think he meant what you claim. When he says that blueness is created by the mind, he isn't implying that it is consciously created by the will. There are different levels of the mind; unconscious, sub-conscious, and conscious. Colors are crafted as such unconsciously, but it is still a mental construct nonetheless. No mind = no blueness ( qualia ).

"The perception of blueness is photons of a particular spectrum impacting our retina."

You are getting trapped in language. You equated photonic interraction as identical with the qualia. The perception of blueness is not merely the photons impacting our retina just like gravity is not merely mass. They are correlated, but not identical.

No, that's what this Lanza guy is doing; equating a malleable interpretation of reality with reality itself.

Essentially his point is that if we can dismiss our concepts of death, then death does not exist. Ie: if there is a multiverse of infinite alternate realities and in at least one of them I live forever, then this means I never die period.

Which also implies the Christian influence in his thinking...

That's where I part ways with him; I don't subscribe to the multi-verse theory.

But he is correct in implying that direct-realism is erroneous.

This suggests a person's consciousness determines the shape and size of objects in the universe.

Lanza uses the example of the way we perceive the world around us. A person sees a blue sky, and is told that the colour they are seeing is blue, but the cells in a person's brain could be changed to make the sky look green or red.
Yes, the cells could be changed to make the blue sky look red but that wouldn't change the kind of photon which is travelling from the sky into his eye. The experience of how I perceive blue, how my mind interprets that photon which got collected with my eye, can't be compared to another mind. That's nothing new.

But when he says "This suggests a person's consciousness determines the shape and size of objects in the universe." then I assume that he means that a person's mind, in fact, generates and controls the world out there, sub-consciously, of course. And he's a moron for doing so, not because of his solipsism but because he tries to justify his view with the blue photon story. (And later with the double-slit experiment, which is on the same level of retarded-ness).

The blue photon story has nothing to do with a mind determining the world out there. It's only about the interpretation of the world out there - How does the spectrum of the color blue make you feel? What does it remind you of and so on.

And the double-slit experiment can be explained by the interaction which takes place because observing on that level influences the result. To observe the photons, to measure what is actually happening at the moment of the passing through that double-slit, observational photons have to interact with the photons which are moving through the slit. That's like someone is measuring the speed of a runner by climbing on his back for the duration of the measurement.

And he's proclaiming: "See! What did I tell you, when I jump on his back he runs slower. Proof, everybody! My mind changes reality, because, eh, my body doesn't really exist, it's all mind so, eh, it's well, there is an afterlife says science! Serious rational, calculating science... I have this diploma on my wall and the white coat so, people, you can rejoice!"

What is more interesting is the comments below that article and likes to dislikes ratio. Solipsism is on the rise, that's the real news here. A 5:1 ratio in favour of solipsism... and its variants, of course.

A world "out there" is an assumption; it's beyond sensual perception. And if there is one, it's the inverse of our experiences as our senses are subjective.

The blue photon story is about the interpretation of the world...

Yes, "the world out there" is an assumption. That assumption can be argued for, though there is no definitive proof, as far as I know, that it truly, absolutely, does exist out there.

I believe there is a world "out there", which exists and has existed before me and will exist after me. My own experiences make me believe that it's much more likely that the world is not shaped by my thoughts, also not sub-consciously (not without physical interaction).
