That dichotomy applies to individuals not groups.

Don't know anything about what they are now, but back when they were MRA they were leftists. A version of feminism with the same animosity towards paternalism.

I can see the movement in Peterson, and Yiannopoulos, and many other internet youtubers who made a name for themselves selling male rights.

They're males that have failed to make sense of female behaviour, failed to find any consistency in it and so have given up on trying to do so and have made a retreat from the female, or have gone their own way, as they would say.

Now that they have backed off and gained a better vantage point they retake the task of trying to clarify the female.

The female is a source of stress for them hence why they reject paternalism. They don't want to put themselves in a predicament where they might suffer.

They just want to avoid pain basically, was my estimation of them.

These effete males are those who also hate paternalism.

they hate paternalism when it is only paternalism that could save them form their predicament.
Some use it to justify why they would not take-on responsibilities, others try to hide their naivete.
They were romantic idealists, like feminists, who thought that by eliminating paternalism both males and females would be free to return to a more rational, loving, compassionate behaviour, because like all Marxists, they are convinced that males and females are the way they are because of their upbringing - nurturing.
Now that they see things not turning out the way they had expected, they want to blame someone...so they blame females, and females of the same ilk, blame males.
They don't want to admit that they are naive morons, or that their delusions that men are raised to behave in this or that way, but that there's an innate disposition, a genetic inclination that males males behave like males and females like females.

For these imbeciles it is a bigger threat to their well-being to question their fundamental principles: that all is subjective and a product of society.
Both sides find I the other their scapegoat.

MGTOW I scanned online are a sad and pathetic mixture of different insecurities mashed with priorly acquired grievences and complexes that a different mindset(cuckset) in a combination with their genetic predispostion brought about in the past and resulted in this new mentality of either pornography and escapism(through routes which aren't always so apparently escapist like obsessive behvaiours around gym or making money and being the player) or discarding all females as disgusting 'cum-dumpsters' that have to be played and fucked(if you dont believe me most sites on how to get laid online are written by MGTOW, alt-right oriented authors). I also think, though I dont have a way to check it, that MGTOW is a 'transitiory' period for these men as males cant play male-feminist cards and stay sane for too long as the system wont accomodate their needs like it does females', men cant go without sex and physical contact(younger ones)for too long even compulsively on pornography like females do, females can fill their evolutionary niche function under feminism(gossip, narcissism, playing naive and desperate males etc.) whilst men can't and masculinity and manhood are to be destroyed anyway so I think most move on after they played some bitch and 'suprisingly' fell in love with her in an instant or under similar turn of events.
