Just the life of the mind

You got to push and test yourself right on the edge of oblivion before you can ever hope to know thyself. Smile

You have to lose everything and risk life or limb to achieve it. Can you dig it? Twisted Evil

Step into the wild....

Why is knowing thyself so important?

How will that make me any more honest than I am now?

Honesty? In a world like this honesty is a severe liability. I wish you all the luck kiddo.

You're going to get eaten alive out there.

Just you asking reveals how little of yourself you truly know.

I think the only things you tell yourself, about yourself are those self-flattering things, you feel a bit embarrassed about even as you think them...and those "little" failing, which also hide an ego wanting to excuse itself form the conversation, like:

"I'm too god for my own good" or "I'm too nice" or "I'm too smart" or "I trust too easily" or "I am too open and giving"...you know that crap women, like you tell themselves, thinking they are being self-critically honest with themselves.

Here's the thing, you imbecile...if you haven't looked at yourself and thought about killing yourself afterwards, seriously so, then you've not looked at yourself.
If you've not tasted the brink and tried to find reasons not to tip over it, then you are masturbating and you should return to ILP where all you fucktard girls go for dildos.
Fausty is giving them out for free.

Yeah, satyr, and ate his liver in a pate with lima beans and all that bullshit.

You remind of is something you tend to learn in poetry creative writing classes. It concerns the issue of sentimentality. Now most people think it's purely about big headed children with big eyes or puppy dogs with big eyes. But it's actually a little more subtle and sophisticated than that. What it actually consists of is anything that tries to elicits a response that the work doesn't actually justify. As Tennyson said:

I distrust any poem that holds out its lips to be kissed, or blackens the eyes.

But let's put it in more modern terms that I'm sure you'll be able to appreciate since you're a little older than me. Pink Floyd hit their peak toward the second half of the 70's running from Dark Side of the Moon to Animals which I think was their best work. But that all came to an end with The Wall in which Roger Waters was just kind snarling at you expecting you to feel his pain. In hindsight, it really wasn't that surprising that the band broke up not to long after that. In fact, in interviews after, some of the other band members described having protested that what Rogers was doing was a little too personal. I would argue that what they actually meant, but lacked the terminology, was that it was a little too heavy handed.

Now satyr, I've noticed that you tend to resort to a lot of really heavy handed strategies such as calling me "boy" or "imbecile". But what I don't see in it are any real ideas. In other words, you're trying to elicit a response out of me that the work does nothing to justify.

Therefore, while you apparently consider yourself some kind of radical departure from the so-called "unenlightened world"; I think you're just a sentimental old fool.

Now a lot of young creative people tend to fall into this mistake. They think they can avoid the mediocrity of puppy dogs with big eyes by being so bleak and cynical no one can accuse them of sentimentality. They resort to an imbalance that is counter to the balance that actually defines quality.

But you're older. I would have thought you would have outgrown this a long time ago.

Yes, I suppose you're right my friend.

But isn't standing above the common fray what we're here to do?

How do we even come close to a taste of human greatness without the sacrifice honesty implies?

How do we, as Satyr impies, know ourselves better by completely immersing ourselves in the common muck?

How does being an asshole make one anymore honest and in tune with things than being respectful?

Now this is not to say that I am any more honest or authentic that anyone else on here. I'm not even sure what that means. But what I can tell you is that Satyr is no more sure of it than I am.

Little boy, and here you come, to offer us a dissertation about how uninterested you are.

Real ideas, imbecile?
I post my ideas...whether you consider them real or unique or whatever, is your problem.

I'm sure you're full of ...them.
I've seen your performance, being so young and hip with the times, and can't see anything but an idiot who had his ass kicked once and is now spending all his time dreaming up vengeance.
"Cynicism", boy, is your take on it.

Cynical is what naive morons call someone who tells them something bleak, and then they pretend that they've already dealt with it.

It's like the word "pessimist".
To a retard anything that diverges from his fairy-tale in a harsh way, is pessimistic.

Shouldn't you be over at ILP spreading your brilliance amongst those who still have those puppy-eyes, and that knowing smile?
I've seen them in church.

Here's a novel idea....for ya:

Bring up something interesting....you know for once...and avoid trying to "expose" me.
You know, be a man.

Expose you? What is there to expose outside of what everyone knows:

That you tend to grunt and snarl a lot with no real meaningful content.

Some would call that superficial.

I mean what real ideas have you actually "posted", that is outside of a lot of nasty and almost indecipherable comments on what everyone else is doing.

The problem, Satyr, isn't your "Cynicism" or "pessimism". It's the complete lack of any meaningful content that leads me to believe I should feel equally "cynical" or "pessimistic".

To go at it differently, I find Poison IV's writing to be really dense (as in poetically layered, not dumb) and obscure. I get the feeling that I would have to read through it several times in order to know what I was responding to. But her writing is not so burdened down with heavy-handed attempts to demean others that I can't maintain some faith that if I look long enough, I will be able to extract some meaning. It's a little like poetry and french philosophy in that sense.

The problem with your writing is that you constantly violate the first rule of poetry and writing:

Show; Don't tell.

I constantly read you telling me I'm a moron and how I should "Go Back to ILP" and referring to me as "Boy" as if that should intimidate me. But I don't see you showing me much. You're getting to be like some senile old man with onset dementia making all these gratuitous insults that most people around you have learned not to take to seriously.

In fact, about the closest you have come to making an actual point is the one above about "cynicism" and "pessimism". And I agree with you. But that is only because I've known for time now how certain words can be used to manipulate. In fact, Rand's similar take on the word "selfishness" was about the one thing I could agree with her on -that is before I became too nauseous in the third chapter of The Virtues of Selfishness to read any further. You might also add to that words like "natural", "nihilistic", and, the Republican's favorite, "socialistic".

But writing this, I suddenly realize the irony and hypocrisy of it in that the one coherent argument I've gotten out you so far is the one you need to aim at yourself. I mean you tend to hurl a lot of terms at me and everyone else that you assume will have an effect they don't really justify. In fact, you're whole strategy falls into this fallacy. Like a lot of outsiders, you tend to rest on a popular assumption that if people reject the brutality and negativity of your argument, it is only because they can't "handle the truth". The point is, Satyr, as you've demonstrated you know, that it's not enough to just hurl terms around. At some point you have to go on and justify them. Once again: show, don't just tell.

But as we're told when we're young, if you can't say something nice about people, don't say anything at all. And I try to maintain a balance.

One thing I do admire about you, as compared to a lot of guys like you on these boards, is that you seem to have the balls to work alone. This is obvious in the way you push away even those who admire you -like Joker. Most guys like you tend to resort to a pack strategy. They're always going around with with their personal entourage of fawning goons. You, at least, show the integrety of your convictions by not resorting to that.

My, my, boy, so much just to beg for my opinions.

Know why i push away admirers like TheJoker?
Because they insult me more than flatter me with their obsessions.

My opinions on a variety of issues and subjects can be found on my Blog.
I've been posting my opinions for over ten years now.

There's nothing I haven't talked about.

It seems the the most attention was garnered by my thesis [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] the reason being is that it deals not only with social and economic and biological issues but more importantly it deals with sex, the major preoccupation of mankind and of the younger generation.
I am currently revising my thesis to tweek it a bit and to add elements I did not in the original.

I've also had some interest shown for my metaphysical positions which I posted here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

I've also offered my views on everything from religion to asceticism and from music to food and wine.
I don't think there are many with such an openness and honesty or anyone who has been as prolific, on these internet forums, as I have.
I was once accused of being verbose, when I attempted to explain my views so that all could understand them...now I am accused of being ambiguous.
Truth is, I like the latter.
None of it claims to be original because there is no such thing as an original idea.
All comes from what precedes it and is simply a newer recombination, and interpretation, of the given.

Having said that , boy, you seem to be asking for a more personal explanation, as if you are admitting that you are too stupid to understand what I am saying so you resort to taunting me into explaining it to you.

Well, boy, I will do no such thing, unless you show the capacity to understand at all.
I do not waste my time with morons and hypocrites girls of any sex.

Abstract asked for explanations, in the Symposium, and I gave them to him...because he exhibited the capacity to comprehend.
You, boy, are a turd...a moron....no malevolent intent implied.

I suggest you stick to Poison IV, who has sparked more than your meager intellectual interests, you little boy, and forget about your baiting and vengeance and trying to knock me off my "high horse".
Interesting that a twenty-something year old female living in the United states would be more fascinating to you, you sexually frustrated maggot.
I, for one, want you to remain as you are...because, really, you can't be much more than that.

Many more intelligent ones than you, dumbass, have tried before...and many more already claim victory over me.
I can give you a list.

Go find them, share your triumph and be happy.
Some of them are on this very board.
