A thread for dry and interesting observations backed by methodological data. In the spirit of Heraclitus' Dry Soul. No 'wet' interpretations.

People primed with moral realist positions are twice more likely to be generous than both anti-realist primed persons and those not primed with anything.
Quote :

Moral realism as moral motivation: The impact of meta-ethics on everyday
decision-making

Donation rates were compared across all three conditions (Fig. 1),
yielding an effect of condition (Kruskal Wallis Test, χ2 (2, N=138)=
9.44, p=0.009). Participants primed with moral realism were twice
as likely to be donors as control participants (Mann–Whitney U=
793.5, p= 0.008) and antirealism participants (Mann–Whitney
U= 770.5, p= 0.012). Control and antirealism participants did not
differ from each other (Mann–Whitney U=1046.5, p= 0.907). We
replicated this basic pattern in hypothesis-blind canvassers (see
Supplementary Results). In sum, priming participants to consider
moral realism doubled donation rates.

Schizophrenics can tickle themselves where healthy individuals cannot.
Schizophrenics cannot detect up to half a second of movement delay on a computer screen when wielding a mouse. Schizophrenics felt in control where healthy individuals felt doubtful about their performance when the modifications to cursor behavior were implemented.

In a Journal of Neurophysiology study, 29 subjects had a cast placed on their non-dominant arm for four weeks. Half of the subjects imagined contracting their forearm muscles and flexing their wrists for five seconds (without actually doing it). The other half didn't do the mental imagery exercises. At the end of the month, those who performed the metal imagery only lost 24 percent of their strength compared to the 45 percent lost by the group who did used their imaginations.

Males born into a group dominated by a strong male entity (alpha male) experience a drop in testosterone.
This has been observed in wolves, where males are not driven off but participate in the pack, under a dominant male's control.
It's a way of tolerating and being tolerant.

Testosterone levels have been dropping, in the west, for decades - feminization with pragmatic evidence.

Yes, foods and environmental pollution also contribute to this testosterone reduction.

Years ago I came across an interesting study, but I've lost track of since.

Scandinavian scientists had concluded that DNA was being upgraded constantly.
Man produces sperm daily, meaning that even the previous day's 'experiences' were integrated into the sperm DNA codes.
Another reason why siblings can be different.

A female is born with her ovum, so nothing new is added....but a male's sperm is a ongoing genetic 'journal' of his life experiences.

This proves that genes are past experienced passed-on, but also that, through the male, these genes are being upgraded constantly.

I think this could have been about:
wikipedia wrote:
DNA methylation is a process by which methyl groups are added to the DNA molecule. Methylation can change the activity of a DNA segment without changing the sequence. When located in a gene promoter, DNA methylation typically acts to repress gene transcription.
So these methylations activate or deactivate certain gene expressions, they switch them on or off but the code basis is not being changed.
This methylation might happen deliberately through "intelligent" processes in the body but I haven't read up on that.
There are also unintended changes to the DNA of the sperm germ cells which produce the sperm cells, like radiation of DNA toxins.
