Modernity - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Modernity Modernity - Page 2 EmptyWed Dec 02, 2020 5:47 am

The "individualism" being described is part of Homo Americanus.
A narcissist, egoist, that believes he has a right to exists in his own private universe and not be bothered, or even criticized, or held accountable, to anything outside of it, if he purchases this right, from the State - representing a collective - to be "left alone", reciprocating the same to those he has entered an agreement with.
It's part of the Anglo-Shere which was inherited by America.
"Live and let live".
A political method of integrating heterogenous populations into stable collectives.
It gradually develops into a form of cultural-marxism due to the collateral effects of allowing individuals to remain as sheltered and isolated as possible, and as oblivious of reality as they will, because all of this is not occurring in a vacuum but in a shared world - let's call it nature - with its own order/disorder and its own processes, entirely indifferent to the needs and fantasies of men.
Culture-Marxism is inevitable because instead of redistributing resources, i.e., wealth, it redistributes the negative consequences of poor judgments and choices, i.e., risks and potential costs.
In order for this cellular individualism to continue to be unaffected by the external world - in order for inter-subjectivity to survive within objective reality - is for the state to intervene and to distribute any negative consequences, i.e., evenly distribute responsibility within the collective using morality as an argument - more precisely adopting Abrahamic morality with its universalism.
Uniform outcomes notwithstanding, this is a social contract that allows every individual to purchase the right to remain obtuse and indifferent to anything outside its own world-view. A method of maintaining the masses in a state that they can be easily manipulated and exploited, i.e., controlled.
I've described it as a detachment of mind from body, or from the tangible, the physical, so as to allow the mind to turn inward where it can be god. The way this occurs is with the willful, if not conscious, participation of the individuals themselves, using language, i.e., semiotics.
Words used to not only redefine individualism and freedom but to detach all concepts from external references so as to make them malleable to individual needs.
Linguistic attachments to external references limits how words can be redefined or reinterpreted, so a total detachment is essential, and their maintenance in a state of obscurity, of vagueness, so that they will not inhibit any subjective reinterpretation.

For example, in order to maintain the concept of morality in an abstract form - ideology - it must be detached from any external falsifiable verifiable experienced behaviours and mystified, made so obscure that it can mean anything to anyone at any time, allowing "individuals" to live by their own private moral codes, unaffected by what others are doing or saying.
In this regard the Abrahamic one-god went a long way of obscuring morality to eliminate tribal or ethnic boundaries, but it remained a problem for total universality, so god is no longer a factor that excludes, on moral grounds. He's been secularized and converted to pure noetic concept, renamed "absolute order" liberating it from previous religious interpretations.
Abrahamism, i.e., spiritual nihilism, began the process of detaching language from its earthly, tangible grounding, but it did not totally eliminate an external authority, it simply replaced an indifferent, will-less, natural order with a mysterious obscure divine order, with a will, i.e., intentionality, and with its own imposing jargon; secularized nihilism finished the process by ridding itself of this authoritarian mediator, denouncing all external order as "totalitarian" because it prohibited the creation and preservation of private inter-subjective realities, each with its own values, morals, and ideals, within which every individual is his/her own authority, i.e., master of his domain.
Meta-Marxism - esoteric communism, i.e., collective inter-subjectivity - because this only works in a collective and quickly falls victim to its detachments if exposed to a world it conveniently and arbitrarily negates - denies relevance to an objective world, and selectively rejects it. Consequently, it needs collectives to maintain its radical individualism - a paradox which all nihilistic ideologies must produce when they adapt/adjust language to personal needs/desires.
Americanized individuals can now live in accordance with their own private, i.e., subjective, moral codes if these do not disturb the private codes of others - all is inter-subjectivized, and only that which inhibits inter-subjectivity is considered "evil" or "in error", all else is "good" and "equally valid".

Modernity - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Modernity Modernity - Page 2 EmptyWed Dec 02, 2020 6:04 am

I'm one of those who considers post-modernism a continuance of modernism, just as Islam and Christianity are a continuance of Judaism, and Judaism of ancient-Egyptian death-worship and Zoroastrianism - just as Marxism is a continuance of Christianity....
By "continuance" I mean it in the same way I mean it when I define "I", or identity, viz., a chain of causality that does not only connects a man with his past - via memories, i.e., DNA - across his existence, from birth to his death, but also extends further back to before his birth as two such causal chains - genetic continuums - merging and synthesizing into a new birth; continuance that changes but remains true to a core recollection.
Memetically, ideologically, this means one meme may branch out and synthesize with another, carrying with it both sides of its inheritance and combining them in ways that may contradict the original, such as in the case of Christianity that effectively synthesized two incompatible world-views through obscurantism, deceptions and linguistic detachments from a world it could not have survived in if it had to remain true to its own stated core - identifying - principles.
Two contrary, incompatible memes, can only be synthesized in the same way an organ, such as a heart, can be transplanted. integrated, into another body. To prevent rejection man chemically intervenes.
Similarly, two incompatible bloodlines cannot reproduce so man intervenes forcing the female to not reject the male's sperm, his genetic material.
Semiotics were used to prevent such a rejection between two memetically incompatible attitudes.

Post-Modernism takes the "logic" of the enlightenment and pushes it to its self-consistent extremes.

We can say that in many ways Christianity is a successful example that can inspire methods of synthesizing incompatible world-views, i.e., ideologies, spiritualities - in a world of increasing miscegenation necessitating semiotic detachments, and self-deception.
A formula to be improved by future nihilists that can learn from its mistakes - like Marxism attempted to do, and failed.
The problem for such ambitions, is always the same: how to deal with and incorporate experienced reality - a shared tangible world - into an intangible alternate reality which negates it, i.e., contradicts it, either partially or totally?
A dilemma…
Christianity offers some innovative solutions, one of which is duplicity, i.e., say one thing, do a second, and think a third, learning this method from its mother dogma; another is redefinition of concepts, i.e., defining them out of existence, mystification, permitting the "believer" to either adopt or to create his/her own interpretations to conceal or to fill in the gaps in reason or data; the individual becomes a participant in his own deception, i.e., self-deception, motivated by a need to survive, and to cope with an indifferent, mostly incomprehensible, cosmos.

Christianity managed to integrate pagan semiotics within its Judaic world-view, by corrupting the original to make it vague enough to be integrated into an incompatible system.
Look how creatively it integrated polytheism into its monotheistic structure, or how it integrated heathen rituals into its Jewish mysticism and messianism.

A nihilistic meme cultivated in European urban ghettos has infested the west, via Americanism.
Modernism leads to postmodernism, as part of its self-referential logic.
A parasitical meme using proxies to engage nature.

McGilchrist, Iain wrote:
As modernism progresses, alienation, through shock and novelty, become defences against the boredom and inauthenticity of modernity. The inauthenticity against which modernism reacted is not in doubt. But there are, as I suggested in Chapter 7, two directions in which, under such circumstances, one might go. One can see the problem as a contingent loss of the authenticity of the right-hemisphere world and try to re-engage the right hemisphere, by patiently clearing away the adhesions of familiarity overlying one's subject; or one can see the right hemisphere's world as intrinsically inauthentic and try to sweep it away altogether.
Newness (seeing afresh what one thought of as familiar, as though for the first time – the patient process of Romanticism) and novelty (deliberately disturbing the representation of reality in an attempt to ‘shock’ oneself into something that feels unfamiliar) are contrary concepts. Viktor Shklovsky's call, in his essay ‘Art as Technique’, to ‘make it strange’ could represent either. It has usually been interpreted as the second, but I do not think this is what he had in mind, as his delight in Tolstoy – and in the novels of Sterne – would suggest. He noted that Tolstoy ‘describes an object as if he were seeing it for the first time, an event as if it were happening for the first time’, and wanted to recapture that authenticity. Indeed, although his essay was taken as a manifesto by the Formalists, it is clear that what he is talking about is not sensationalism, shock tactics or bizarre distortions at all – in fact, the opposite. ‘Habitualisation’, he writes, ‘devours works, clothes, furniture, one's wife, and the fear of war … art exists that one may recover the sensation of life; it exists to make one feel things, to make the stone stony. The purpose of art is to impart the sensation of things as they are perceived and not as they are known… .’ –Shklovsky, Viktor
[The Master and His Emissary]

Coping with alienation by recycling the old as if they were novelties, trying to feel what one has become numb to.

The ability to produce uncanny combinations replaces the unforeseen with novelty. A fArtist is now judged by how well he can recombine the old in strange new forms, and resell them as novel and unique to masses starving for adrenaline rushes in an entirely safe and regimented world. Artistry of shock and awe. Talent replaced by the ability (creativity) to produce the unexpectedly supernatural and extraordinarily unreal.

Spengler, Oswald wrote:
What is practiced as art today — be it music after Wagner or painting after Cézanne, Leibl and Menzel — is impotence and falsehood. Look where one will, can one find the great personalities that would justify the claim that there is still an art of determinate necessity? Look where one will, can one find the self-evidently necessary task that awaits such an artist? We go through all the exhibitions, the concerts, the theaters, and find only industrious cobblers and noisy fools, who delight to produce something for the market, something that will ‘catch on’ with a public for whom art and music and drama have long ceased to be spiritual necessities. At what a level of inward and outward dignity stand today that which is called art and those who are called artists! In the shareholders’ meeting of any limited company, or in the technical staff of any first rate engineering works there is more intelligence, taste, character and capacity than in the whole music and painting of Present day Europe.
There have always been, for one great artist, a hundred superfluities who practiced art, but so long as a great tradition (and therefore great art) endured even these achieved something worthy. We can forgive this hundred for existing, for in the ensemble of the tradition they were the footing for the individual great man. But today we have only these superfluities, and ten thousand of them, working art ‘for a living’ (as if that were a justification!). One thing is quite certain, that today every single art school could be shut down without art being affected in the slightest. We can learn all we wish to know about the art clamor which a megalopolis sets up in order to forget that its art is dead from the Alexandria of the year 200. There, as here in our world cities, we find a pursuit of illusions of artistic progress, of personal peculiarity, of ‘the new style,’ of ‘unsuspected possibilities,’ theoretical babble, pretentious fashionable artists, weightlifters with cardboard dumbbells — the ‘Literary Man’ in the Poet’s place, the unabashed farce of Expressionism which the art trade has organized as a ‘phase of art history,’ thinking and feeling and forming as industrial art.
Alexandria, too, had problem dramatists and box office artists whom it preferred to Sophocles, and painters who invented new tendencies and successfully bluffed their public. What do we possess today as ‘art’? A faked music, filled with artificial noisiness of massed instruments; a raked painting, full of idiotic, exotic and show card effects, that every ten years or so concocts out of the form wealth of millennia some new ‘style’ which is in fact no style at all since everyone does as he pleases; a lying plastic that steals from Assyria, Egypt and Mexico indifferently. Yet this and only this, the taste of the ‘man of the world,’ can be accepted as the expression and sign of the age; everything else, everything that ‘sticks to’ old ideals, is for provincial consumption.
[Decline of the West]
All that is required now, to make it as an “artist” – a fArtist – is a well-networked publicist and a talented and resilient marketing agent.

What holds true for art holds true for philosophy.
Modern man - Americanized man - is now only interested in selling product on the market place. His "philosophy" crafted to appeal to as many hungry minds as possible; given "value" by how well it sells among the mediocre masses.
Always seeking acknowledgment, appreciation in others, the thinkers honesty is converted to a seductive lie.

Humanity = World
World = Humanity
Once this tautology has settled into a psychological "truth" detachment from the world is complete.
Now world is malleable to words; the criteria for judging validity shifts to hedonism, and popularity, to emotional standards; now magic is possible.

*****
The absence of talent is no longer a hindrance. Compensating by purchasing the art of networking and linguistic manipulation, suffices to sell product – marketability proves depth, and the nonsensical becomes sensible when it remains ambiguous enough to insinuate without saying anything clearly – the art of seduction.

Signorelli, Mark Anthony & Salingaros, Nikos wrote:
To the contrary, modern art betrays a pursuit not of harmony, but of domination — domination of nature, of language, of one’s fellow man.
The level of stylistic violence implicit in modernist architecture is extraordinary: overhangs without obvious supports, leaning buildings, extremely sharp edges sticking out to threaten us, glass floors over heights leading to vertigo, tilted interior walls also leading to vertigo and nausea. Look at the horizontal windows of modernist buildings that violate the vertical axis defined by gravity, or the ‘brutalist’ exposed concrete in dangerously rough surfaces — a violence against the tactile environment, often falsely excused as being ‘honest’ rather than a sadistic architectural expression.
The ‘milder’ forms of this violence are represented in minimalist environments devoid of all signs of life: totally blank walls, windowless façades, curtain glass walls, buildings as cubes of glass, buildings as cubes of smooth concrete, etc.
Indeed, the subtlety that earlier attempted to camouflage this intrinsic violence has finally been abandoned, and buildings are now built as if blown apart, dismembered, and their forms melted. Consider also the jarring disjunctions of meaning and sense in modernist poetic lines like Hart Crane’s ‘Again the traffic lights that skim thy swift / Unfractioned idiom, immaculate sigh of stars, / Beading thy path--condense eternity’ or Geoffrey Hill’s ‘Vehemencies minus the ripe arraignment / Clapper this art taken to heart the fiction / What are those harsh cryings astrew the marshes / Weep not to hear them.’
Such passages constitute an assault on the normal conventions of linguistic usage and discursive thought, which is why Jacques Maritain claimed that the poetry of his age ‘endeavors to get free from the intelligible or logical sense itself,’ that it represented ‘a process of liberation from conceptual, logical, discursive reason.’ Or consider the deformations of the human form in painters from Picasso onwards, or worse, the displays of body parts with or without fresh blood, excrement, anything that is disgusting and revolting to our physiological systems, all of which, as Ortega y Gasset claimed, ‘betray a real loathing of living forms or forms of living beings.’
Through this stylistic violence, modernism pursues not an edification of man’s rational nature, but rather an exaltation of his unqualified will.
And behind it all is nothing but despair, betrayed by the total absence of beauty, which signifies these artists’ complete inability to imagine any reality transcending the calamitous ugliness of the modern world.
[The Tyranny of Artistic Modernism]

What other types of art would be produced by minds that have lived lives surrounded by human artifices, human lies, human deformities, and disjunctions from nature?
Prisons and sanatoriums should not be expected to be beautiful. A world created by hiding from reality cannot but come to the realization of its own end: pollution, dirt, ugly masks.
Yockey, Francis Parker wrote:
Appalling numbers of youth have been led into a cynical ultra-sophisticated attitude which regards drinking as a badge of social aptitude, which makes a fetish of sport and professes eroticism as a way of life. A perverted and insane pictorial art, lewd exhibitionistic dancing and jungle music form the spiritual norm of this sector of America's youth.
Urban jungles cultivating disjointed psyche’s looking for a semblance of authenticity in hyperbole, hubris concealing depths of anxiety unable to discover the source.

Baudrillard, Jean wrote:
The logic of consumption eliminates the traditional sublime status of artistic representation. There is, strictly, no longer any privileging of the essence or signification of the object over the image.
The one is no longer the truth of the other: they coexist in the same physical and logical space, where they also `operate' as signs (in their differential, reversible, combinatorial relation). Whereas all art up to pop was based on a `depth' vision of the world, pop regards itself as homogeneous with this immanent order of signs: homogeneous with their industrial, mass production and hence with the artificial, manufactured character of the whole environment, homogeneous with the spatial saturation and simultaneous culturalized abstraction of this new order of things.
Some will say (including the pop artists themselves) that things are much simpler: they do what they do because they want to; basically, they enjoy doing it; they look around them and paint what they see; it is spontaneous realism, etc.
This is mistaken. Pop signifies the end of perspective, the end of evocation, the end of testimony, the end of the creative act and, last but not least, the end of the subversion of the world and the curse of art. Its aim is not merely the immanence of the `civilized' world, but its total integration into that world. There is in this a crazy ambition, the ambition of abolishing the splendours (and foundations) of a whole culture, the culture of transcendence.
[The Consumer Society]
Americanism proposed this model as global salvation.
Man "liberated" from his limiting physicality, from corporeality - empowered by the release/relief to subjectively unleash his creativity and make of himself what he will.

Art immersed in its own creations; art imitating art, producing a pseudo-reality that is preferable to the masses, in relation to the world it usurps. The real is buried in artifice and eventually forgotten – all becomes artifice, and the very idea of the real is doubted.

This convoluted terminological pseudo-scientific babble is supposed to be 'philosophy'. Imagine that. Reminds me of Parodites' academic regurgitations and hyperbolic citation material. These are the minds attempting to carry the torch of a timeless and ancient art of self-knowledge that this moron said was at an end, because he measures the value of it by humanity's standards; a herd mind. Makes me think of a comment Schopenhauer made about Goethe saying that what made him great was his brilliance for simple and clear thinking and how it touched upon great heights of language and understanding without the need for esoteric profundity. At least Magnus made an accurate statement for what is really going on, whether he was truly appreciative of it or not.

To any newbies who are reading this forum and may be interested in studying philosophy for the first time, for ever loving fuck's sake, stay away from clowns like the ones in the above link; instead read Plato, Aristotle, Carl Jung, Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Friedrich Schelling, Friedrich Holderlin, Montaigne. And anyone else who spoke clearly with wisdom and spiritual awareness and honest insight. Don't buy into intellectual vomit like that passing itself off for philosophy, and remember:

Modernity - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Modernity Modernity - Page 2 EmptySat Jun 12, 2021 7:41 am

He's chosen "value" because it implies what he cannot justify - either that a stone can judge value, or that all is energy - my position - which is being measured and given a value, which also requires consciousness to be the measuring actor.
I recall him saying that all is valuing, including non-living matter...now he's pulled back from this absurdity ascribing valuing only to the living...which is not novel or ground-breaking.
That living organisms would be attracted to energies it loses in the course of is existing - interactivity causing attritions that require replenishing and correcting -  is nothing novel.
The energies participating in an organism are constantly being lost due to existence - defined as dynamic interactivity - and the organism would be naturally attracted to said energies in order to replenish them; and obviously the organism would value said energies highly, and would desire not only to replenish them but to accumulate them in excess - hoard them and direct them to increasing its own organization using them.
Where's the profound insight?
If he remained true to his original position - which he denied when I asked him "do stones value"? - that even non-living energies value, then this absurdity would also not be novel, since such claims have been made by many before him and will be made after him.
The use of "value" instead of energy is an attempt to pretend to be original, revolutionary....exceptional.
I suspect that he wants to imply universal intent without actually saying it openly and clearly....because he would be ridiculed.
It falls it his heritage of Afro-Asiatic superstitions - nature = deus....implying willfulness, intentionality. All is governed by an intent; all is appreciating and judging and evaluating one other.
I've offered my positions on how matter - as in patterns of energy participating in unities man experiences as stones or rivers, clouds, metals...particles etc. - do not require intent to explain how they combine and remain unified.
The dynamics of interaction - attraction/repulsion - suffice to explain how they synthesize and remain unified until an superior external force manages to overpower the force that keeps them unified.

That living unities - life - would naturally be attracted to energies that participate in its organization is also not something new and ground-breaking.
The energies - patterns - elements, - call them whatever you like - participating in an organic unity would naturally be highly valued by the organism - their continuous loss would make this a pressing matter for the organism.
Beneath this appreciation is need...loss of energies.
So, valuing is not even the underlying cause, only the effect.
Like I've said...the word "value" can only be used in relation to an intent - an objective - producing a triangulation between subject its object (goal) and the distance, effort, required to attain it, conferring upon the object of its desire value.
Even if used to refer to energies then "value" is a measurement requiring a triangulation between the subject, the object being measured (energy in this case) and a measuring standard, a medium.
It's use outside these dynamics only serves alternative motives, having nothing to do with truth and world, but only about the speaker and his needs. So, in this case the misuse and abuse of the term "value" exposes a need/desire to be appreciated - highly evaluated by others, and subsequently by oneself - raising self-esteem means raising ones self-evaluation on the market place of humanity.

What could be insanely novel is the claim that an organism - most probably only a human - can create its own reality by willing it with words, or by its intention, expressing this intent linguistically, semiotically and not converting it to activity, so as to test it against an indifferent world of no intent.
Willing it into existence, as it were....which would tie in with Nietzsche's Will to Power in a demented psyche as this.
Concealing this motive in mythological, romantic prose, could serve to produce a psychological effect on the reader - nonsense appearing to be profound insight only the "gifted" chosen ones can fully appreciate - see hope they sell fArt, like that "statue that is not there".
The fArtist also marketed his "work" using gibberish, pseudo-intelelctual jargon that seemed to be saying something g when it was saying nothing. Someone was convinced and he paid the price.
The loss of the one-god has made some go insane, fantasizing all kinds of possibilities.
Some may believe that the absence of an external absolute authority means that man is now to step in and become this authority - subjectivity.
Remarkably this is only possible through cooperative convictions. A single man cannot create his own reality, but a collective of men can create it as an inter-subjective project based on a shared conviction - for all intents and purposes their shared alternate reality is their reality, irrespective of what exists outside of their collective.
A memetic bubble.

The result of applying Utopian (Abrahamic) ideologies against the world is only and always Dystopia.

It's difficult enough to 'improve' oneself and severe daily habits, than it would be to "improve" others or the world.

Freud, Jung, Bernays tapped into that Abrahamic-marketing ability, which then metamorphized into modern marketing (Modernity). Historically, it doesn't change too greatly, but does have swift spurts of "progress". Rewind the centuries ... was it much different in 1800AD, 1600AD, 600AD? Or haven't they been selling the same bullshit for thousands of years? "Nothing New under the Sun"

Charlatans are enticed by this marketing when they begin to learn, themselves, how to adopt and utilize the same methods to manipulate those of lesser intellectual quality. It's the discovery of their Priestly nature, which is genetic. These 'Priests' cannot help themselves. They are compelled to enact their nature, and so become inevitably drawn to the age-old Marketing schemes. Abrahamism is unbeaten in its historic success.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it?

It explains why he continuously repeats and injects every context with this bullshit ‘VO’ idealistic theorem of his, so as to have an effect of persuasion that this is the true substance of reality. Iambiguous does the same thing with his ‘bring it down to earth’ claptrap; reducing everything down to a simplistic infantile moral qualm. Christians do the same thing, referencing ‘God’s will’ or Jesus to describe all life’s circumstances because an absolute notion of ‘divinity’ carries with it a mystical quality that can conveniently apply to anything and cannot be questioned. A mind fuck game in other words. His positions do not interest me, only the psychology of pretension he embodies; after all, someone who aspires to be a 'rap artist', listening to jungle music all day, is not to be taken seriously. Muddying the waters is to conceal who one truly is through a facade which is the image of power, power that can never be known, and so it becomes omnipotent.

This brings up the virtue of indifference. That if one suspends the immediate need for power and appreciates one’s place in hierarchy, nurturing it, improving it, strengthening it, then power will follow as a natural effect. The need for an absolute to resolve this effort, means that one knows they lack the ability to ascend the hierarchy and instead look for that which will allow them to hide in a pretension of power; insidious methods of hierarchical inversion based on inferiority that cannot be overcome.

Those desperate for what they do not have, are drawn to absolute answers, solutions, resolutions, where their suffering can come to an end. An idea that can provide all the answers, and that they are the providers of, the ones who wield it or understand it, then they do not have to exert any effort or struggle anymore, they can take comfort in a sense of grander, as you can tell with him and many others on there who consistently exude that delusional self-satisfied attitude of believing that they have everything known and figured out.

He also selected value to connect to Nietzsche's transvaluation of values...
He's a typical wannabe con-artist...who, I am convinced, actually believes in the crap he sells.

Like you mentioned, his adoption of cRap also reveals a motive to appeal to the postmoderns lost man-child listening to hypermasculine primal music because art is in decline - reflecting America's decline. He seeks followers among the base - the lost, the urbanite ghetto worshipper, the post-Marxist who has given up on that delusion as well, the desperate, the needy, those with nothing to be proud of or no heritage to draw sustenance from. New worlders....Americans.

Given his superstitious beliefs - see his aitiological beliefs, and early claims of magical powers...fueled by some kind of drug use - See Parodites - and his maintenance of a mythological prose that attempts to seduce romantic idealists and men-children, I think he believes that his thesis offers others the ability - the power - to create their own reality.
Words, numbers, are magical, concealing powers for those who understand - are initiated or, at the very least, show a willingness to take it seriously.
He's also replaced the Christian's "love" with "value" to bridge Nietzsche and Christianity - Abrahamism.
Within his contexts all is self-loving....and approaching god is approaching love through loving oneself.
An organism loves what increases its power, and maintains it - Love Ontology is Christianity if it had managed to go there. Everything is self-loving; everything is love - divine.

For me it's like witnessing ancient gurus or prophets plying their craft in ancient urban centers.
Degeneracy and desperation return mankind to that state.
When Empires begin to collapse gurus and prophets appear to take advantage of this emotionally traumatic event, with the same superstitions and the same claims and the same promises - only upgrading the jargon.

Need/Suffering is the experience of existence.
Necessity = Ananke primordial goddess.

Need gives value to an objective.
Need to know,
Need to appropriate.
Ned to attain.
Need to self-maintian.
Need to propagate - desire.
Need to grow - power.

Will to...
In both Schopenhauer and Nietzsche.
Need for...
To will something implies a need....need for....need to.
I need to maintain what is not certain.
I need to attain what I lack.
I need to cultivate what is not total...complete.
I will that which I need.
If there is no need there is no will. I will nothing if I am absolute, i.e., complete, whole, perfect.
A singularity cannot will what is other than itself....and what it already is.

Necessity = relationship.
Dependence.
Freedom is also included as the concept that cannot be absolute, only relative.

Subject - Movement/Momentum - Objective

Heidegger's thrownness is in the movement/momentum.
Past - Present/Presence - Future
Existence is experienced in the present/presence. It is presence.

PostSubject: Re: Modernity Modernity - Page 2 EmptyWed Sep 08, 2021 10:15 pm

The modern mind is brain damaged; and like someone with brain damage, they sustain cognitive injuries relating to amnesia, loss of time, loss of identity, disconnection from world. They have to relearn to speak, walk, recollect their memories etc.
This is why modern minds are so retarded from their own human nature, why they are fixated on finding absolute answers to their problems; deconstructing all truth, all self-evident realities, denying everything real, because they have lost all connection to the real world and themselves in relation to it.
Romanticism is a big part of it; glorifying something is being detached from its essence and actuality, it offers comfort, idealizing it brings it closer to the spirit and builds an abstract relationship in place of a real one. But this of course results in a dangerous naivete and foolishness that can lead to more disheartening ramifications, exacerbating their existential condition with inevitable disillusionment. Thus, this detachment from the world, directly correlates to a detachment from oneself.
The media simulacra, in this subject, detaches one from the original source, and makes the rest of the world an artificial referent to all its artificial copies. The systemic spiritual problem with the modern mind, are not these illusory threats to its perception however, its how they manage and overcome them to keep themselves connected to the world.
Being unable to have an experience in a real time situation without deferring to some mass media artifice, some manufactured cultural referent, indicates an inferiority of the individual mind to relate to its environment in a real way on its own. It shows a weakness, a disability of the individual to separate what is real from what is false, and how dependent they are on the matrix despite being unplugged from it. They never ever examine that the problem is them.

Sheltering.
Safe spaces expanded so that all actions, all choices are protected by a collective net that evenly distributes negative consequences.
This cultivates a romantic idealization of nature, and the illusion that everything is predictable, and that all judgements and choices are equal.

Hick's modernism disagrees with Peterson's on the matter of Abrahamism.

Paglia, Camille wrote:
But there is no true expertise in the humanities without knowing all of the humanities. Art is a vast, ancient interconnected webwork, a fabricated tradition. Overconcentration on any one point is a distortion. This is one of the primary reasons for the dullness and ineptitude of so much twentieth-century criticism, as compared to nineteenth-century belles-lettres. American professors have been institutionally impelled, by graduate education and then by the universities that employ them, to become narrower and narrower. The goal of comprehensive cultural vision predicated by German philology, which esteemed universal scholarship, has been dismissed as unrealistic in a modern alienated world of fragmentation and subjectivity. But the old German style, sober, practical, precise, lucid, and learned, is exactly what is needed to remedy today's confusions and excesses. Only small minds fail to see patterns and wholes.

Paglia, Camille wrote:
The rapid expansion of universities in the baby-boom era and the invention of the four-year Ph.D.—a disastrous move that devalued the doctorate and substituted hasty, pretentious, assembly-line makework for true research and learning—institutionalized the worst features of second-generationNew Criticism.

Lacan, Derrida, and Foucault are the perfect prophets for the weak, anxious academic personality, trapped in verbal formulas and perennially defeated by circumstance. They offer a self-exculpating cosmic explanation for the normal professorial state of resentment, alienation, dithery passivity, and inaction.
Their popularity illustrates the psychological gap between professors and students that has damaged so much undergraduate education.
******
Robert Caserio recently said to me, ‘The whole profession has become a vast mimicry. The idea that there is open debate is an absolute fiction. There is only the Foucault monologue, the Lacan monologue, the Derrida monologue. There is no room for creative disagreement. No deviation from what is approved is tolerated.’ These monologues are really one, the monotonous drone of the school of Saussure, which has cast its delusional inky cloud over modern academic thought. Never have so many been so wrong about so much. It is positively idiotic to imagine that there is no experience outside of language. I am in love with language, but never for a moment did I dream that language encompasses and determines all knowledge. It has been a truism of basic science courses for decades in America that the brain has multiple areas of function and that language belongs only to specific areas, injured by trauma and restored by surgery or speech therapy. For thousands of years, sages and mystics of both
East and West have taught us about the limitations of language in seeking truth.

*Just as an anarchist cannot survive in a world where the possibility of an autocracy persists, so too a nation-state cannot survive in a world of emerging SuperStates.
A city-state could not have survived outside the, then, emerging nation states.

Technology gives the nihilist hope. With technology man can correct nature’s ‘injustices’; man can become his own creator. If combined with the denial of free-will this implies that this divine ascent is part of an inevitable cosmic fate – a telos.
This is obvious in transhumanism.
A hatred of past, i.e., nature, is openly expressed as a hatred of the physical, the body and its limitations; its mortality; its obviousness displayed as appearance.
Past made present, is interpreted as appearance. Trashumanism dreams of using technology to replace the body, or to transfer man's ‘spirit’, i.e., mind, into a machine; transmuting it from flesh to pure energy, completely or selectively erasing the past, leaving only presence with an endless – unlimited – future, i.e., spiritual immortality.
Another superstitious advancement from Abrahamic nihilism into a secular form.
It is when humanity will truly become god.

Sloterdijk, Peter wrote:
However, besides such transformations of transcendence —we could say, into an extended humanity-there is also in modernity a thoroughgoing revenge of the occult. Precisely because no room was left in the world concept of enlightenment for the beyond (i.e., there are no enigmas, only "problems," no mysteries, only "falsely formulated questions"), consciousness, which thus was left in the lurch, sought a thousand secret paths into dark regions. Respectable occultism is a typical product of enlightenment, and its representatives are parodies of scientists who, against the skeptical world, try to defend the beyond, which for them is a certainty, and this they do by means of precisely that scientific skepticism that only acknowledges facts. Of course, that cannot work well, but that it is attempted at all shows at least a perhaps strongly justified urge. Occultism is the too often humorless and cramped drastic defense of metaphysical sensibilities against the exactions of a materialist backdrop ontology and of a repression of one's own "death" in favor of a falsely enlarged and falsely modest ego: black metaphysics, border crossings between the psychotic and spiritual galaxies, black empiricism beyond empiricism. We can predict that these neomythical tendencies will increase. They are, in reality, the things that challenge what is traditionally called enlightenment. Enlightenment must be enlightened about what enlightenment dishes up. Catastrophic processes of forgetting follow enlightenment's triumphant "learning processes" like a shadow. Because enlightenment, with its ir-resistable antimetaphysical thrust, has led to a polemical splitting off of death in the first person, it would today be apposite for it to go into the school of the opponent and to learn what is at stake when living beings experience themselves to be in alliance with "powers" that go about their affairs beyond the narrow and simultaneously puffed-up world-subjugating ego.

This is more like a defense of the modern, not everything is worse:

I rather have faucets/plumbing than having to carry water from the well/lake

And even the modern medicine has not only become worse, living the isolated forest/countryside there could be more unexpected deaths, dental care has become better etc, but yes I get also modern diet makes teeth worse, but don't tell me people didn't smoke back then or not die from not taking care of their teeth properly
