It is a natural part of the antagonism between an organism, dependent on order, and specific patterns, and Flux, tending towards, producing, increasing chaos, randomness.
Agon - the stress this manifests as.
It is in al life, felt as need/suffering...particularly in an organism that is gradually developing self-consciousness.
Existential anxiety: awakening to its own condition.
This, in particular environments, such as overpopulation, resource stresses, mainly due to resource control, coupled with uncontrolled reproduction, un-culled replication, dis-easing a herd, a group, and replicating unfit mutations that compound over time, is the genetic cesspool where the virus incubates.
It goes dormant, when these conditions change, returning to natural balances, but remains, like all viruses do, in a state of dormant readiness - as code in books, when it comes to memetic viruses (ideals, theories, spiritual teachings political positions and so on).
In the west the virus emerged in its most virulent form among the Semites, and is known as Judaism, which then came in contact with healthy genes, healthy memes, such as Hellenism, altering it to what we know as Christianity, or coming ni contact with Persian culture, and through them with Hindu Aryan tribes, in the east, morphing into Islam.
They did not invent it, they gave it a seductive form, which they then had to deny other weak, sickly members in other tribes, beginning the resentment they thrive on: antisemitism.
The last tribe to be assimilated were the Khazars, later known as Ashkenazim, when they entered Europe.

The Semites did not invent nihilism, they simply exploited it, using it, at first, to comfort themselves in a world they found themselves at the bottom of the hierarchy - flipping the hierarchy by claiming a King of all earthly kings Deity, and they his chosen representatives.
This became seductive among all the downtrodden, the ill, the weak, the cowardly among all tribes, increasing their seductive appeal.
They had to stop assimilation by refusing new converts, retaining the value of their distinctiveness, as the chosen.
In time this resulted in a paradox...the meek gaining power....

Christianity also faced this paradox, but having assimilated parts of Hellenism, not the principles, but the parts they could change to fit into their nihilism, they had a metaphor to escape detection through.
Crusaders, had to justify killing infidels and their fellow Christians...they did sack Constantinople.
Self-deceit remained a useful tool. Remaining detached from reality, offered creative licence: they could use any word-games to mystify their duplicity.
Christianity made Judaism universal, opening the door to all tribes . Judaism made cosmopolitan. ALL can be saved from this "despicable" world of need/suffering.
In the far-east this virus emerged as Buddhism, as a reaction to Hindu cast systems.
Population pressures became an issue there, long before they did in the west. For this reason Buddhism is an older form of Nihilism, which remained closer to its ancestry, but is now is modernizing, morphing to fit into more sophisticated western nihilism.
It is, in both cases, a way of coping with shrinking and then absent frontiers, expanding populations, demanding tolerance, and cohabitation among strangers, and increasingly sheltered, populations, born and never developing any tolerance for nature's indifferent, cruel, "inhuman" method.
Later, the dis-ease became more viral by also eliminating religious intolerance, identifications, and discrimination, morphing into humanism, Marxism, and liberalism, and all these other variants that spring out, from time to time, like the Venus project, or the VO plagiarism of previous forms of the same dis-ease, trying to assimilate Nietzsche in a post-Christian crypto-Christianity....under a new name. The last being more immediate, present on ILP, but by far more insignificant, when compared to the other viral strains. assimilating Nietzsche into Judaism, to remake a failed merger with Hellenism, circumventing the devastation of his aphorisms.
You will find them passionately refusing the relationship between Judaism and Christianity, for this reason alone....necessitating a new Jesus, a new Messiah, finally merging the incompatible Hellenic and Judaic spirit.

These will not be the last variants, because of the very nature of this mental dis-ease.
With no reality limiting what the mind can consider "fact" and "useful", with no phenomenon to restrict word usage, nihilism has the potential to reinvent itself continuously, more so when sheltering prevents nature from imposing a cost upon the fantasized benefits....giving the infected ones, the sense of a win-win situation, with minimal if any recognized negatives.
This is, of course, an illusion, part of self-deceit, which is part of the virus' method of infecting.
human sheltering is not absolute,a s there si no absolute...so it can only postpone, or reduce costs, it cannot erase them.
Nihilism deals with this using schizophrenia, or compartmentalization- it does what it must, to survive, and then believes in what contradicts what it does - words conflicting with deeds, or the real contradicting the ideal.
The dis-eased ones are lying to themselves, and then to others - pretence.
Preserving the comforting lie, the flattering hypocrisy, while acknowledging reality, by acting out of necessity.
I'll give you a striking example of this in action...a typical liberal female will talks about how appearances are superficial and beauty in the eye of the beholder, and consciously she beliefs these are principles guiding her life, determining her actions, and choices.
but, will she pick-up a bum, form the streets and make love to him?
will she give herself sexually to a fat midget, or a ugly short male?
I'm using extremes to clarify.
No, she will not.
She will then justify her refusal using mystical means, chemistry, and so on.
Subconsciously she recognizes fitness, beauty, what is sexy, in a male....but consciously she will not admit it.
She will become aroused, in the presence of a attractive male, and then justify it as him being "nice", "funny", "charming"...
She will keep her lie secret, even from herself.
There are many other examples of nihilism using self-deceit to deceive others, tr to remain viable in a world it negates and denounces as illusion, or as too harsh.....or malleable to individual taste.
Taste not a product of world, but world a product of taste.
Nihilism must lie, because it dismisses a world it must then survive within. It has become spiritual, claiming a more 'real" reality, and political, becoming a method of human husbandry: the control, exploitation, and manipulation of increasing human herds.
It depends on the elimination of human identities to create ana artificial harmony...social cohesion.
It offer positive feedback, to become seductive, popular...because it ceases to exist and to matter, outside human minds. it's existence dependent no human brains, sharing the same semiotics, the same metaphors and symbols.
It's magical range of effect limited by the number of minds infected by it.
Outside of this it has no reference point, no contact with reality, and this is reflected in its usage of words.
