| From the most recent release from one of my very favorite groups. I have linked to them before on this thread. Music inspired by (and recently played as a live soundtrack to!) Paradjanov's Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1964). It also samples from the film's original soundtrack. The film itself can be seen here. |

| Contrast the lecture to the modern musical styles... the C-RAP, the jungle beats, the lyrics full of lust, ego, love, love....love in a loveless world where it is expected and has lost all value. Sex, a pleasure a douche-bag can enjoy by feeding stupid females, released from paternal protection, a replacement addictive drug. No sensuality...vulgarity. Lies, pretences...images with no substance. _________________ γνῶθι σεαυτόν μηδέν άγαν

| Hey, Satyr. I have a question. What is that euphoric feeling of electricity running up your arms and spine ( It makes the hairs stand up on your arms - it feels good ) when listening to certain songs you appreciate? I have this feeling often when listening to songs and tunes I can, deeply, relate to. But I'm just wondering what this sensation is called and what the evolutionary purpose of it is? |

From what I know, hair standing on end is meant to increase a primate's appearance of mass. Like a cat's hunched back. I would think the nervous system, when stimulated by fear, automatically does this. Now, in the case of pleasure, or music inspiring us on a visceral level, I suspect it's a byproduct of this nervous system's evolved reaction. Fear produces a stress reaction...an amassing of energies in preparation for the fight/flight mechanism. In this case the nervous system becomes the conduit for the release of contained energies. Some feel it during orgasm. The sensation of tingling when listening to an emotionally stimulating piece of music, is the nervous system releasing stress...relieving itself of amassed energies. The emotion being the nexus between brain and internal processes and external processes when stimulated externally, via the sound of a beautiful piece of music (symmetry) that may agitate emotional reactions feels this flow of energy, from outside - via the ears, in the case of music - all the way into every nerve cell in your body, as energy influx. In some cases, like with an orgasm, the direction of the energy flow is outwards, from the internal processes, stimulating the nervous system and releasing the energies towards the otherness. I would think that this flow of energy goes in both directions, with the difference being the degree of it flowing outwards, from contained energies, or inwards, from external sources of energy - music being vibration, activity - energy. Because the brain is the central hub of the nervous system, when stimulation, energy flows from the outside inward, it must pass fist through the brain, to be processed. When the flow is from the inside out, no such processing is required...it's a release. Passing through the brain, into the nervous system, means the external source of energy, activity, must stimulate the brain emotionally, or sexually, or, in more sophisticated brains, abstractly. Fear is the best stimulator and the root of all emotions - according to me - so when watching a horror film fear also creates this tingling. It results in muscular tension...stress. When another emotion is stimulated is may result in muscular relaxation...a de-stressing. _________________ γνῶθι σεαυτόν μηδέν άγαν

| There are parallels between Tolkien's Elves and the Tuatha De Danann, who were the original inhabitants of the island and were displaced by the Celts and such, becoming mythological figures, spirits, gods; Tír na nÓgEverything has it's season.
