I think people who travel used to keep their photographs at home and show it to people who they invite to their homes.
Now all the traveling is "in-your-face", you don't have any private experiences that you don't share on social media, people travel to appear more "interesting" and open minded, even though only thing that matters is that their resort is sunny and warm, no principles.

I used to joke to somebody that they should not go through the costs and troubles of actually travelling to a foreign place, instead they should stay at home for two weeks, avoid their acquaintances and friends and plan a fantastic holiday in their head, find some photos from that place, get some tan in the sun and after those two weeks have passed they can signal to their friends about that great experience.
Also, I've noticed that when people talk about their holidays, it's never so-so. It was either wonderful, great or it was terrible, painful, catastrophic.
