| 3000 year old tree (verified), still alive and green. 3rd largest in the world. Named 'The President', by a <300 year old country's statesman. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]3000 years of relevance, of life - a living testament against 'what took place 2000 years ago is no longer relevant today'. |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I want to plant a hedge of yew trees. I always liked those hedges at old castles and parks. Magical. You need patience because they grow slowly. The good thing is that because they grow slowly you only have to cut them once a year. They also handle the shade very well, they have very strong regenerative powers and they can reach an age of 3000+ years. And, you can also let them grow taller if you think it's necessary... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And it's an ancient tree common in European forests of the past, very popular among bow, weapon and furniture makers. And you can make poison out of its needles. |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Sometimes the weak branches or whole spruce trees get crushed under the weight of the wet snow on top of it. Evergreen trees are what is left at the end of autumn, while other trees look lifeless. |

- During the rain there is a certain darkness that stretches out all objects. Beyond that, its effect on our body forces us to withdraw into ourselves, and this inwardness makes our soul infinitely more sensitive. The very noise rain produces, which the Latins called densissimus imber, continuously occupies the ear, awakes attentiveness and keeps us on the alert. The brownish hue the moisture gives to the wall, the trees, the rocks, adds to the impression these objects make. And the solitude and silence it spreads out around the traveler, by forcing animals and men to be quiet and to seek shelter, makes these impressions more distinct. Enveloped in his coat, his head covered, and moving along deserted paths, the traveler is struck by everything, and everything is enlarged before his imagination or his eyes. The streams are swollen, the grass is thicker, the stones are more sharply defined; the sky closer to the earth, and all objects, closed up in this narrowed horizon, occupy a greater space and importance.
Here is the desert. In this silence, everything speaks to me, and in your noise everything falls silent. |

| Morality - altruism - is not exclusive to humans, because the behaviour we associate with morality or "humaneness", is an evolved behaviour, one common among social organisms that have adopted cooperated and reciprocal survival and reproductive strategies. Man was the only organism, on this planet, that encoded such behaviour, producing ethics. Even rules against inter-group killings are encoded in many species, although not as stringently enforced because any loss of a group member decreases the entire packs survival probabilities.
So, this ability to sympathize is a by-product of an ability to empathize....which requires a large brain and some degree of self-awarness. Imprinting is a factor. A member of a species identifying with another species. We see this when mothers adopt another species offspring and raise them as their own, or how dogs behave as if we were dogs or they were humans.
