Clearly these mutants are not entirely to blame.

Identity is a continuum and you, as present, as what can be apparent to others; presents experienced as appearance.
Here is where nihilism takes root since what you are is not the same as what another is....yet it is apparent to them. as presence, you appear to another as what you are: sum total of your past nurturing, i.e., your nature, is revealed......and so man invents concealments, e.g., garments, and then ideas, and then intervenes to shape what appears, what is apparent, to conceal what is.
A desperate act of trying to change what has already been determined.
