My description of psychiatry is quite a simple one. It is a pseudo scientific system used as a way to control, pacify, and assert authority/conformity over the minds of the general population. In short it exists to control the minds of people.
It especially focuses its attention on those people that are an inconvenience or deemed a threat to the state and therefore in conclusion it is very much an apparatus of the state primarily.
We can see this with the black slaves of America who were deemed mentally ill for trying to run away from their plantation owners. [ See Drapetomania for reference]
In the former Soviet Union block psychiatry was a favorite means of disposing or incarcerating political dissidents as well.
